Working on an Agenda for NNJ Drupal Group

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Between the July meeting and DrupalCampNYC8 I got a few possible presentation commitments lined up.

allaneldridge1967 suggested discussing different modules by presenting a website he is developing or has developed.
The audience would be beginners and intermediates.

richbaldwin has offered to do a presentation on setting up multisites.

robbiethegeek has offered to do a presentation on drush.

jwilde has offered to do two presentations: a business presentation and a presentation on features.
He won't be available before September.

phunster has offered to do a presentation. However I'm unsure on the exact topic.

It was suggested that we do two presentations: a beginner/intermediate presentation and an advanced presentation.
Since allaneldridge1967 had offered at the end of the last meeting to do his presentation and since robbie will most likely
be leaving us after August I suggest the two presenters for August be:

allaneldridge1967
robbiethegreek

I would appreciate these two letting us know this week if they will be available for August and will be able to present.

kaw3939, I would like to test the projectors in the conference and computer lab before August 11.
Please let me know your availability.

Thanks,
Tom

I agree to do an Intro to Drush (it will also pretty much force me to do a little bash 101 [command line shell interface] and local environment productivity talk. Unless something comes up I am in for 8/11

Web Host support

hamonwry's picture

Can you be sure to include what to ask for from your web host to get shell access on shared hosting accounts? While I plan to move to a non-shared host site for production, my dev site is a shared host. I thought I had shell access, but as of yesterday, I'm not sure!

I'm going to do a presentation on a site I maintain for a softball league in NYC. I'll do a comprehensive overview including the user and administrative experience, the database architecture (CCK types), module development, and whatever else I can pack into the time I'm allotted. I'm in the midst of updating the site so I'll be interested in hearing feedback as well as answering questions that people may have about it.

11 Aug Presentation

I'll test the projectors, i'm not available this week, but next week after 6pm M-Thursday is OK, but that may change.

Tom, Can you setup the signup for the event?

Presentations for September? October?

tomsherlock's picture

Upcoming presentations . . .

September

Phunster has committed to present on Context September.
richbaldwin, can you be available to present on multisite in September and perhaps as a backup this August?

Otherwise would anyone be available as a backup to present on another subject in September?

October

I realize it is about 3 months away, but who would be ready to present in October?
jwilde on features? Would we consider this advanced?
Who would like to present an intro subject for beginners? Bok Choy, EMDash? Anyone else?

Organizing the August Agenda

tomsherlock's picture

allaneldridge1967 and robbiethegeek,
it is unclear whether we will have one or two rooms. If only one room, then presentations will be run consecutively with a limit of 30 minutes. I suggest that Allan go first. If the presentations run parallel, you could each have up to an hour if needed. Presentations would start at 8:00pm.

We should keep the first and last half hour unstructured to allow for more spontaneity.

Rooms

kaw3939's picture

We will have two rooms.

I'd be willing to do an intro session for beginners at any time really.

At some point I'd do a workshop on basic module or theme development.

I just don't have the time to prepare a module or theme development workshop at this time, but I will after september.

Glad to know both rooms will be available for August.

We may have two advanced presentations for September. Waiting to hear back from Rich.

October has yet to be worked out. Maybe you could aim for October for a workshop on theme development?

tomsherlock's picture

Based on strong attendance of recent NNJ Drupal Group meetings at NJIT and NJIT's increasing interest (through Keith's agency and advocacy) in hosting the NNJ Drupal Group meetings I've taken the initiative of scheduling meeting events for the second Wednesday of October, November and December at NJIT.
