Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.
OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313
Sorry, think I'll have to jump ship
I've messed with the OpenPublish for the past couple days.
I just removed from my server.
Changing the admin menu made things doubly difficult. I am accustomed to the Drupal administrator module (3rd party), which was in the earlier version.
I found it hard to navigate, just don't have time for relearning the admin menu structure with a totally different appearance, etc.
I'm not saying this is not a great addition, just think I'll spend my time doing the regular Drupal stuff, with which I'm familiar.
Maybe, when I get more time...

When I saw OpenPublish, it was a perfect sollution for our company (we have a group of magazines and newspapers).
But when I started the process of installation, some very strange problems occured. (you could see the posts in this group).
What I want to say is that OpenPublish seems to be a perfect and powerfull sollution, but this little big problems are quite frustrating...
Of all CMS that I had installed, the OpenPublish was the only one that I couldn´t get the installation with success (and I´ve tried all the sollutions that were gived by the fantastic members in this group).

Hi!
I don´t know if I´m the only case of this situation, but is very strange. I´ve done the configuration of the webserver to have the memory to 254, and the time to 240.
The installation starts very well, but before the Configure Site step, the installation don´t goes to the Calais API Key step (the screen gets white).
Then, I refresh the webbrowser and aparently, the admin menu appears. I thought that the installation was fine, but when I see the website, a blog style layout is published (you can see it here: www.vilagolfe.com).

Hi!
When OpenPublish was throw installation, it stopped before the Calais API Configuration (the screen turned white). Then, I refreshed the webbrowser and the admin panel was showed.
But then, I´ve played the screencast in OpenPublish website and the admin panel in the screencast is a lot diferent. For example:
In screencast the menu is: -content management -site building -site configuration -site management...
In my admin menu: -content -structure - configuration -appearance...
Read moreModules to Paid Content site found!
Hello All,
I have found out a solution to creating a paid content site! I was 500 words into a wiki earlier when Backspace took me back a page and I lost it all, so you'll have to wait a few days before you have a tutorial, but all in all, you may be able to figure it out.
1.Ubercart (you're going to be using the built in role purchase system.) Ubercart will also create an account for the user. (I'm still toying with the best way to create the accounts)
2.CCK
3.The Field Permissions Module for CKK (which is quite awesome)
Is CSS Override possible?
I was wondering if subtheming or overriding CSS is a possibility for the theme provided with OP 1.6?

I saw a feature on a TV news station site that basically was a video of a woman and her daughter talking. It was green-screened and laid over the main news page. It was a 10 sec spot highlighting something in the community. Sorry, I can't seem to find the site.
Is there a module built that can allow me to do something like that?
Thanks.

When you get the OpenPublish up and running you are faced with a myriad of tools and configuration items.
I realize the documentation is an issue and it is understandable.
Think about opening a OpenPUblish blog where members of the group can create articles with comments. This way users can explain how they use and apply various modules. Explanations could be clarified over time as well. Blog discussion items could include small tweaks and fixes as well. Server issues with certain modules, and so on.

Thanks to those who have assembled this Drupal package, as this rich semantic information framework has impressive possibilities.
I've to conceed, I'm not a developper nor a tech-geek, but a french journalist (excuse my poor english writing knowledge). My interest in Openpublish is driven 'cause it's close to main needs of a digital publication and, go hundred steps farther.
I've tried to put hands on OP 1.5-309 with a very few results. For yesterday, I've installed and tried to customize OP 1.6-357, and it's really interesting, even amazing in some ways.

Hello All,
Yet another topic of interest to me is content management, especially the management of e-papers and podcasts, both features that my site provides, and quite a few newspapers provide.
My site will feature a weekly/bi-weekly "e-paper" in PDF form, which I would enjoy delivering via email, as well as a podcast that is 15-30 minutes long, and is published daily. The biggest thing on my mind is, how do I deliver this content to subscribers in a fashion that is 1.easy for them, and 2.visually appealing. What modules and techniques can we take advantage of to deliver our content?

Read morePaid Subscription Website using O.P
Hello All,
My project with O.P involves providing paid content. In essence, visitors can see only content teasers, while subscribers have access to full stories, forums, etc. As of now, UberCart is looking like the tool of choice for processing subscriptions. This is the workflow...
-User Registers
-After verification, one new menu item is available -"confirm subscription". Their verification email also includes a link to this page.
-The user goes through the checkout process, where they are buying a "role".
-Once payment is complete, the user is granted the "Subscriber" role.
Working with 1.6
Hello All,
I have just finished installing OpenPublish 1.6 into a sandbox on one of my sites so I can play around in it, and it's looking pretty good! I found O.P. a few days ago and have been playing with it heavily as I finish a business plan for a new news site I am organizing.
Great news - thoughts on the new release so far
This is very excellent news. I haven't had a chance to look through changes, but will do so today for sure. I've been holding on two sites for this release (I hope).
There were alot of addin things mentioned over the past few weeks that sure will improve the previous version, not that it was that bad.
I'm printing off the upgrade instructions as I write.
