44 Marvelous Sites Powerd by Drupal

I happened upon this and wanted to share. The article mentions Drupal still playing second fiddle to WordPress :) but makes note that the designs are inspirational and could sway someone towards Drupal over other CMS's

Here is the article http://flashjourney.com/2009/11/15/44-marvelous-sites-powerd-by-drupal/

Student Drupal Tech Help

I work for a group at the UW that manages a small group of Drupal sites for departments in our building. (No, this isn't a service we extend to just any department, it has to be in our building.)

However, when approached for this service, we always stress how

1) we will give you a blank drupal install, maybe a theme or two, a tutorial on how to use it and let you go to town.
2) we will not do custom design.

Videos Posted: Design for Drupal Camp Boston

The video we captured is posted and linked off the Session pages.

http://boston.design4drupal.org

Titles with "+ Slides + Video" for example on the end will have those resources.

We hope that those that could not attend will enjoy some of the goodness we shared at MIT on June 13 and 14, 2009.

A special thanks to Sheeri Cabral and her assistant Ed Carlevale for their brilliant production work.

Improving drupal forms

Hi everybody,

a few days ago I spotted a very nice idea from the user hunvreus, who worked out a nice method to beautify drupal forms.
He describes this as a basic idea which has to be improved more:

The popup script works fine but need a bit of customization to take textareas, radios and checkboxes into account, the behavior could be improved to take the field focus into account, the style of the popup could be improved as well...

Design Profiles

Over at AdaptiveThemes we've been hammering out how to give our designers better tools for designing for Drupal. At first we thought about a set of briefs, then that grew into packages (brief + stock images, logo etc) and then I struck on the idea of Design Profiles.

A Design Profile is a package including a sample site (say a blog, business site, Ubercart site etc), PSD templates, a detailed brief and stock images (sample logo, photos etc).

Free Website Style Guide Photoshop Template

If you are a website designer, you probably know that having a clear and well prepared style guide can save an enormous amount of time for developer and save the designer from having to explain the design details over and over. That’s why I have created a blank website style guide template. I hope it will enable designers to speed up their design process and bring more beautiful designs to our community.

Sub theme of Zen used for OoglieBooglie.com

We recently launched a sub theme of Zen for a client here in Virginia Beach, VA -- http://www.oogliebooglie.com. OoglieBooglie is a place where artists and art lovers gather. Artists create designs that they think would look great printed on a T shirt. OoglieBooglie and the members vote for the designs they think are the best. Then, OoglieBooglie prints the design on T shirts and sells them on the site. The artist then gets paid $2 USD per shirt sold on the site for an entire year.

"Ultra Light" User Experience / User Interface Design & Drupal for Startups

I run a group of tech entrepreneurs called Ultra Light Startups (http://ultralightstartups.com/) and I'm interested in the use of Drupal in startups for several reasons. Many of our members' startups are either already built on Drupal or they are evaluating use of Drupal for a project. Several of our members are also active in the NYC Drupal community. Also, after hosting an event on Open Source CMS's last fall, I became convinced that Drupal was the right platform for several of my own projects, including a planned major upgrade to the Ultra Light Startups site.

AdaptiveThemes reaching out to the designer crowd

This week I re-launched AdaptiveThemes as the first site to crowd source commercial Drupal themes. Sounds like a radical idea and it probably is. I seen crowdsourcing work for a number of other high profile design projects and I believe these crowd sourced themes can be a huge win for Drupal users and the Drupal designer and themer communities.

The concept is strait forward:

  1. Designers upload designs
  2. Themers convert the designs into beautiful Drupal themes
  3. We sell them and split the profits 50/50, designer gets half, themer gets half
