Taxonomy

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Discuss, collaborate on, and share code and information for developing and using taxonomy and its contributed modules (and, where relevant, the more general topic of relating content).

Have questions about categorizing, tagging, sorting, or organizing stuff in Drupal? Used taxonomy in such a great way that you have to share? Want to talk about taxonomy so advanced even more esoteric words like ontology and orthogonality are needed to describe it? Need to keep up with the latest tools for all this? We shouldn't label people, but this group is for you!

What is the functional benefit of hierarchical taxonomy?

I'm fairly new to Drupal and am trying to formulate an approach to using taxonomy on a site I'm working on. I don't think I fully understand the use of hierarchical taxonomy and am looking for some insight.

I understand that by using hierarchies the terms appear in a nested "outline" style list, which helps the user select terms for node content. But what is the overall benefit of this structure? Is it purely visual?

Database development prior to MySQL

I am seeking advice about what might be the best database program to use to create a large pre-MySQL database, from which I will select the content to export/import/enter into a Drupal MySQL database.

I am developing my first Drupal site -- a web portal where information will be organized by relevance to various generations. The site will launch with a Baby Boomer orientation, with information organized for various baby boomer niches, and then expand to serve more generational niches.

Turning Taxonomy Terms into Hierarchical Breadcrumbs

We have a complicated taxonomy with lots of parent terms with children terms underneath. Our pages are generated by a behind the scenes call to that taxonomy term. So for instance, if you're looking at the Teen section, all the posts shown have the tag "Teen" on them. A post can be set to multiple taxonomy terms at the current time.

We'd like to develop breadcrumbs so that if you're looking at an item which is tagged Teen as the parent term and Movies as the child term, the breadcrumb would show something like Home > Teen > Movies > Movie Title

Sort Taxonomy views page in Drupal 7

Hi all!

I'm looking for a module or method that allows the user to sort the view of a taxonomy term.

I try to modify the taxonomy_select_nodes() params, in the core module to sort by last modified node, but it doesn't work. If it's possible i prefer that the user can sort the view by their preferences.

I'm using Drupal 7.4

Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Another Approach to Trees

Hi all,

In the last 6 years or so I've been working with Dr. Tzachy Yuli on a brilliant custom ERP that has a strong resemblance to Drupal. Our ERP included three components only: Entities, Trees, and Collections. I won't get into a full discussion of these elements (though I think Drupal can benefit a lot from this approach to data-basing -- if anyone's interested, I'd be glad to elaborate), but I do want to share here our experience with trees.

How to display the nodes titles list in the taxonomy hierarchy?

I'm trying to display a block on a page with the list of nodes title associated with terms of my taxonomy.
I wish to have something like this :

-Parent term
--Child Term
----nodes title
----nodes title
----nodes title
--Child Term
----nodes title
----nodes title
-Parent term
--nodes title
--nodes title
--Child Term
----nodes title
----nodes title

etc...
I've been trying with Views but I haven't succeed to obtain something that gives me satisfaction. The term is always present above each node and I haven't found the way to group these terms.

List out taxonomy terms as links, based on whether the nodes they are attached to have a term from another vocabulary applied.

Hello,

I posted this on the coding forum as yet without result and I have since discovered this group so I thought I'd try my luck here:

I'm facing a bit of a problem trying to selectively list out taxonomy terms as links, based on whether the nodes they are attached to have a term from another vocabulary applied.
I think I may only be able to do this programmatically which shivers my timbers as I'm a bit lame at PHP. So I thought I would ask in here if I'm on the right tack or not, before embarking on writing the code.

Heres the scenario:

Funky menu issue on Term page

I am having an issue with the taxonomy/term/* pages and my menu and I figured that I would post here to see if anyone has any thoughts.

Here is what is going on; I am using the Primary Links and have a few items in the menu. When I go to a taxonomy/term page, certain items in the menu disappear. This only happens on the taxonomy/term/... pages. One page that disappears is of the default content type Page and any content type Page I add disappears as well. The other item that disappears is a CCK content type and any of that type disappear when I am on the terms page.

Treat Taxonomy as Content

Suggesting that taxonomy be available as Custom Content Type (IE:create content > taxonomy term) and/or that permission option "edit own taxonomy terms" be made available.

This would eliminate the need to add taxonomy terms when a new node is created that also functions well as a taxonomy term and also seems to support the D7 field taxonomy functionality.

:) S.

Parent and child taxonomies

Taxonomy is a great term for advanced categorization of content through parent and child relationships. I get it.

When editing a vocabulary, you can structure it as parent terms and children terms.

What is seriously missing is a way to enforce these relationships at node creation, especially if you need to be able to add child terms at node creation.

If you can pick a parent menu item at node creation, why can't you do the same with taxonomies?

Drupal 6: add fields to a Taxonomy

Hello,

We have categories of products in our site. We would like to create views on our products, with additional fields added to the content depending on the taxonomy.

From what i understand, it is possible to add fields to a taxonomy with Drupal 7 (http://drupal.org/node/774884). I believe it would be the way to do it in Drupal 7. With a view, i would fetch the taxonomy fields and display them, added to the content.

taxonomy/term + user = nodes created by user in category

Hi all!
I was looking for a possibility to display nodes created by spieciffied user (uid) in speciffied category (taxonomy term(s)). I know about Views.module, track.module and "search.modules", but I prefer something simple and small... Finally, I decided to add a little piece of code to the taxonomy.module. Now it looks like:
<?php
if(isset($_GET['u']) && (int)$_GET['u'] == $_GET['u'])
$nuid = (int)$_GET['u'];
if(!isset($nuid)){
$sql = 'SELECT DISTINCT(n.nid), n.sticky, n.title, n.created FROM {node} n '. $joins .' WHERE n.status = 1 '. $wheres .' ORDER BY '. $order;
