Integration with an Open Source School scheduler
So I've been looking around at some school timetabling solutions, particularly the Open Source solutions, and I'm wondering about a possible integration module with Drupal.
There is an Open Source school timetable scheduler called FET which has a very basic GUI that allows you to take a set of scheduling parameters, and it creates an output xml file with the school schedule inside it.
Read moreCommunication with Parents
What would be a recommended approach for giving parents a view of their kid(s) work? Ideally, when a parent logs in, they would see the names of their kids throughout the school system. When they select one of their kids, they would see what assignments they have due, their current grades in their class(es), attendance record and any notes from the teacher that relate to the class or specifically to the child (i.e. "Billy is doing great on his math homework.")
Read moreGradebook module
I downloaded and installed the Gradebook module that is posted as a project over at Drupal, and realized I had difficulty understanding how it worked, although I did manage to figure it out.
So over the past few days I've put together a node submission form for a Gradebook node which includes the following features:
- You can enter in student names in one column and their scores in another column
- You can specify the default number of students per page.
- You can create new columns for your gradebook without submitting all of your information.
Printer-Friendly Pages
I just installed Printer-Friendly pages, enabled the module, and configured it. I'm not seeing the printer-friendly link on any nodes.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
- Alex
Wiki Tables Question
I've installed DrupalEd and created a group for our Science Department where they would like to put their curriculum in a wiki table. The table pasted from Microsoft Word, no problem at all, but when you publish it, it overlaps over the OG navigation on the right hand side of the page. Is there a way for me to turn of the OG navigation on this page?
I'm also thinking of adding the Printer Friendly Pages module so these folks can print this form. Anyone had any good/bad experiences there?
Thanks! - Alex
Read moreFile attachments and my files question
Users can attach files to pages and the like and there is the IMCE/personal files in the my account area. However, the placing of this seems off or limited as my account means much less then my work or even my files. At least for the needs of my users it would be much more useful if there was a central file repository in the my work area. My users are more interested in file sharing and collaboration along these lines. They understand concrete tasks like uploading a powerpoint presentation or a pdf but to ask them to post this to a page within a blog post or the like will throw them off.
Read moreFirst time Installation of DrupalEd - Observations
I have been charged with the task of looking into different collaborative education systems. When I first heard about the whole DrupalEd thing and saw a demonstration I was excited. Now that I have my hands on it I am confused and somewhat dismayed. I am sure there is wonderful functionality in there but trying to understand how to tap into that is rather difficult. So where is the My Work, My Files and even Course pages? It seems that these default views for this pre-configured version are missing. Do I have to create these?
Read morefriends/buddy list question
I can not find the link or form to invite other users to be friends/buddies. When I click on the "My Friends" link I see the page with buddylist, pending requests, etc. However I am not able to find where users invite other users to be friends.
Does this need to be enabled somewhere or am I just missing the link?
Thank you.
Read moreerror when clicking user name
I am getting the following error when I click on a user name from a comment or story (for example when I click on the name of the user who contributed the story):
warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/admin/public_html/modules/user/user.module on line 1516.
Anyone else getting this?
Thanks

Read moreFile Attachments Changing the Audience
Courses are allowed to have pages. Pages allowed to have attachments. Course Pages' audiences are set to the Course and Public by default. When files are attached to Pages the Public setting turns to private. The file attachments upload fine and work fine for subscribers of the Course, but in this case that is only the teacher. Why would that one setting change and will I sleep tonight? Thank you.
Read moreTutorial - automatically enrol students into all main year group courses
I wanted a way to automatically enrol students of a particular year group into the main year group courses. So if I created a new (Year 4 history) course partway through the term it magically appeared in all Year 4 pupil accounts. This video turorial shows how I used http://drupal.org/project/og_multiple_mandatory_groups_by_role to achieve this. The result: if you (say)create a new (year4) course and then simply asign it to the Year4 role, then create a new course assignment, all fifty Year 4 students will have the course added and the homework automatically emailed to all of them. I hope it is of use.

Building Pack-and-Go Functionality in Drupal
We have been using a smaller version of DrupalEd for our equally small state university program, basically taking out functionality that already exited in current systems and tweaking content types specific to pre-existing portfolio outcomes.
One thing that is missing, however, is pack-and-go functionality. We have a vendor our campus is looking at for a portfolio system (boo!), and that is the only feature they have which we don't have. This would be a great boon for us!
Read moreNeed advice on image function and tagging
We need to allow users to upload photos (without accompanying stories) and tag them. Ideally we would display a block of approx. four recent user photos on the front page and a link to see a slideshow of perhaps the past 24 hrs of user photos. Something like this can be seen on the front page of www.nowpublic.com.
Read moremysql error after installing imagefield and imagecache
I added imagefield and imagecache and I was working throught the tutorial from the provious post on this forum. Everything seemed to go smoothly until I attempted to create a story and upload a picture with it. The upload got hung up and when I accessed a page with a view that shows all new site content I got the error shown in the attachement.
When I accessed the admin section I got a message that I needed to enable "clean URLs" which I have done. However I am still getting this error message. I am not sure how to proceed to get rid of this error.
Read moreAccess to course sections
I'm about to install DupalEd to test this out, but I'm also wondering if there's somebody that has done this already.
I will need to have a course that is structured into several sections, each with several modules. The tutor will need to be able to give learners access to the modules in each section when (and only when) that have completed the modules in the previous section (by submitting an assignment, completing a quiz or some other task).
Read moreGroups vs. Role-accessible pages
I've set up my site successfully, each teacher has access to their particular class group(s), and all seems to be going well. What I would like to do is create an FAQ page that only my roles "instructors" and "principal" have access to. This is a page where I will post FAQ teasers to. It could work by creating a Content Providers FAQ group, and subscribing all of the instructors and the principal to it. However, I don't really want it to show up in their personal "my groups" listing, I'd really rather it was just a page in the menu that shows up when the user fits that role.
Read moreContinuing Display Bug on "My WorK" section
I have been unable to work out the problem with some out of place links on the, "My Work" section of my Drupal Ed installation. I have attached a screen shot. I am using the Zen-Trevor theme, but I am getting the error in other themes as well.
As you can see near the top of the screen, under the My Work title, there are several out of place/unnecessary category links. Also in the list of titles, there is another misplaced link.
Are others getting this problem and are there any known solutions.
Thanks for any suggestions
Read moreCCK fields in" Printer friendly version"
I have seen a few posts about problems with showing the custom CCK fields that are included in a book page but have not seen any suggestions toward a solution for this issue. I have created an area for teachers to post curriculum maps using the book module. As you would expect, they want a printed version. Only the title and the description show up in the "Printer friendly version". Though these are nicely nested in the proper hierarchy of pages, the custom fields are left out. Any thoughts as to how to have them included in the printer version?
Read moreEnabling author information for stories
When users create stories there is no information about the author or when it was created appended to the story. I have looked at the story content type and I don't see where to enable this.
Am I missing something or is there another way to do this?
Thanks
Read moreEducational content types
Hi,
I have recently secured a one year secondment to the post of e-learning facilitator within my institution and have dug out some old elearning content i developed in my own CMS a number of years ago. I have converted these to work in Drupal and would like feedback on them, maybe with a view to releasing the modules into the community if they prove useful.
