Creating an online school with Drupaled

I am currently using drupal and I am in the planning stages of creating a "online school" per se. With all the modules out there, I am not sure which ones to use and if they would work as intended. My outline/workflow would be as follows:

  1. Create a teacher role
  2. Allow teacher to create a "class"
  3. Allow users to enroll in class with and without payment (Ubercart, Userpoints, something)
  4. Grant access rights to class once payment recieved

Adopting Drupal as a learning tool within K12

I came across this thread recently, titled "Moodle as 'the killer app'" -- the author of the original post is Wes Fryer, a very respected edtech blogger.

Also, at the risk of stating the obvious, I don't see Drupal and Moodle as competing within education -- there are things Drupal does well, there are things Moodle does well, and when faced with a choice you use the best tool for the job.

I have used drupal for 6 months and I have a small drupal website www.tradehalls.com, but I am currently developing it. I am interested in teaming up with themers and developers to come up with solutions that can make online learning fun and very interactive.

Social Media Classroom

I ran across this today. Howard Rheingold, long-time writer/thinker on impact of virtual communities won a grant from the Digital Media and Learning competition sponsored by HASTAC and the MacArthur Foundation to build a custom distribution of Drupal called Social Media Classroom. The goal is to create a "private, easy-to-use, flexible environment for blogging, chatting and aggregating [student's] social bookmarks"

Interesting presentation/thread on universities using Drupal

From Dries' blog: http://buytaert.net/many-universities-use-drupal

It includes an embedded presentation by Paul Albert of Cornell University on adopting Drupal. Also, the comment thread is worthwhile reading.

Cheers,

Bill

Verify Page Visits - A Passive Tutorial Module

Hello, can anyone help me with this, or please point me in a direction?

I have collected some simple requirements together in hopes that I could explain what my objective is without causing too much confusion.

First of all, this project is about cooperative education. Second this project is about the honor system.

With that being said, here's what we would like to do.

An admin creates a collection of nodes.
A trainer starts an account on the site.
The trainer creates accounts for trainees.
Trainees visit the collection of nodes in order.

Student submissions with comments; multi-thread?

Here's the scenario we're looking for:
*Student submits a node
*This node has an image field and a text field
*They can upload as many images as they want (usually like 3-5) and they submit some text about the group of images
*Other students come in and give comments specifically about images that they submitted OR about their textual description of their artworks
*Teachers can read and respond to all comments / approve / disapprove of them for all to see

What is Drupal Ed ?

Hi All,

new to the group. have been working on a website which uses vbdrupal + vbulletin. The idea is to integrate moodle or moodle like capability. Then I came accross the word DrupalEd. But all I could find about it was a small page on funnymonkey (http://www.funnymonkey.com/drupaled-latest) which hasnt been updated since Feb 19th. Looked the project is dead?

Any ideas or help where I can get more info on what Drupal ed actually does? Is it still going on or has it been discontinued?

Drupal and Education at the Drupalcon'08 in Szeged

I just submitted a session/BoF/panel proposal for DrupalCon in Szeged suggesting ways of helping Drupal make greater inroads in the education sector (including research): http://szeged2008.drupalcon.org/sessions/what-does-education-sector-need.... Any feedback is appreciated.

I thought I'd start a thread where we could discuss what else the Drupal in Education/Drupal in Academia and Research crowd can do in Szeged. Please post comments with suggestions/ideas for other sessions, BoFs, or just let each other know who's coming.

Mac CVS client

Posting here cause I don't know where else to ask. Does anyone have a good GUI CVS client for the Mac that'll work in Leopard? I was using Crossvc or something like that but it stopped working cause it's shareware (not a fan when it did work).

Drupal Camp Alberta 2008

Start:
2008-07-03 14:00 - 2008-07-04 23:00 UTC
Event type:
Drupalcamp or Regional Summit

DCA08 is unlike any corporate conference you've ever attended - and for good reason. Focusing on "Drupal" - an open source content management system and application framework, DCA08 is a low-cost, highly collaborative "unconference" held in at the University of Lethbridge, in Southern Alberta, Canada.

Gone are the days of sponsored vendor presentations and for-profit registration fees. Our peer taught, volunteer-run sessions will by heavy with "doers", and light on the "talkers".

Join us July 3 & 4 from 8am - 5pm both days (Networking event on July 3rd)

Best CAPTCHA solution?

Well, the spambots found my site. I have set it up so that the admin (me) has to approve all registration, but I am sure that the one attempt from "premier visa" will soon be followed by many others.

Is the CAPTCHA module the best solution for this, or is there another module which would serve better?

Drupal4Lib BoF (ALA Anaheim)

Start:
2008-06-29 15:30 - 17:00 America/Los_Angeles
Event type:
User group meeting

Okay, we'll be meeting for our Drupal4lib BoF on Sun. (6/29, 3:30p-5:00p) -- in the LITA Bloggers Room (till they chase us out).

This will be an informal get-together of people to talk about how they've implemented Drupal or how they'd like to implement Drupal. Whether you're a newbie or pro is fine. Everyone is welcome. I'll see if I can dig up a projector so people can do brief presentations of their projects.

Please leave comments and suggestions.
