Adding Terms/Vocabs to Group??

I (along with a few others) have been asked to help better the groups page for our New Hampshire DUG.

I've setup multiple panels pages, and have been able to figure out most of the little details of setting up the panels (without knowing what the views are expecting) (thanks to some good posts in this group)

thank you

hello
i would like to thank the g.d.o team for his great moderation job....
your shower is cool but so cold.

i have created a group related to a new module with the same name as the module one.
the group was rejected after few weeks telling me that discussion about modules groups should be in the module's queue list...

then, i have created another group about the global subject that the module integrates : "OpenSimulator"
OpenSimulator is an open source server system to manage 3d immersive virtual worlds compared to secondlife.

Real name not showing

Where is the correct place to post an issue about the 'real name' field?

An associate attempted to update his real name on Drupal.org. However the 'real name' field continues to be blank for his Groups.Drupal account when displaying on a sign-up list.

Regards,
Tom

How-to video or web conference dedicated to using OG Panels on groups.drupal.org

Would it be valuable to you, the group organizers and site admins on groups.drupal.org, to see a how-to video or participate in a live web conference and see how OG Panels on groups.drupal.org's "Pages" tabs can be used? I recently heard that the LA Drupal group's pages were helpful to organizers of a few regional groups, and I'd be happy to share what I know.

SEO for g.d.o

I started this as a comment over in the SEO group but I've copied it over here as some of the proposed changes will affect how this site gets used.

This is a wiki page. Please feel free to organize, edit, update and add to this list.

As I'm sure you know it's hard to optimize a site for everything. Some groups do exceptionally well in their search engine rankings. Most sort of suck. It'd be up to the individual groups to "fix" their keywords.

A few (basic) ideas to make the site more accessible to search engines:

Can't click on 1st 3-4 links in main column

This is a pretty weird bug... I've tested and confirmed the problem in Chrome, Firefox, and Opera all in Linux. But on pretty much any page on g.d.o. I can't click on the first 3-4 links (though stuck links don't necessarily seem to be in a linear order) in the main column. Links after that seem to be working.

displaying nodes in a table view

Is it possible to have a table view of nodes in a group here on groups.drupal.org? This used to be possible, I think, but now I can't figure it out for the life of me. I just want a table view of a specific group's events rather than a list of teasers.

Adopt a Drupal Code of Conduct (#DCOC)

As our community grows, it is imperative that we preserve the what got us here. Namely, we keep Drupal a fun, welcoming, challenging, and fair place to play. IMO, we need to proactively state our shared ideals with respect to conduct. Think of this as coding standards for people :)

Our friends at Ubuntu have blazed a brilliant trail in this area. They use our CMS, and I propose that we use their Code of Conduct.

Creating official policies and procedures for local group admin/managers

As some might be aware, the NYC group is again in the midst of a heated conflict over the behavior of members of the community, who also happen to be group "leaders" (more aptly, they are admins of the local g.d.o site). Unfortunately, the 'offending' group members keep on offending, and IMO this is exasperated due to a lack of official policies for local group conduct, procedures for dealing with local group admins/leaders, and someone (g.d.o admin, drupal association member, etc) empowered to deal with local group admins and issues.

Starting a DrupalCamp Install Profile for Drupal 6

In 2009, LA Drupal gave our DrupalCamp L.A. site code away to the world for other groups to adopt that would hopefully help spark new DrupalCamps across the world. At the time of its release we could only provide a ZIP file with the database dump and a folder of modules. Handfuls of user groups adopted our code and started to give us feedback. Up until now there has been no official documentation, instructions, or anything that would help get a new DrupalCamp site up painlessly. That is about to change.

The newsletter setting change for notification from groups.drupal seems no longer work

Hello Team,

I recently noticed that
You can no longer easily change your email notification types.
For example:
I want to follow a discussion or a certain group, or a city far away,
I'd like to get notification for discussions, but I don't like to get notifications about local events.

There use to an easy way to change the notification settings in "My account" section,
"Notification" tab
"* Edit your notifications settings" area
You can just uncheck the "event" for a certain group,

But now that function seems disappeared.

And replaced by

Loosening up the Policy on Groups Acceptance - Rules and Tools

In order to loosen up the policy on creating groups we need some better tools. Let's brainstorm the problems and potential solutions.

How about:

1. Allow easier curation of topics into/out of groups

  • the Og_actions module could help us here if we had a tab on a a node to initiate the "add to my group/remove from my group" action.

2. Make it obvious which groups are "ghosts" and also which are hot

Change word "Manager" for something more accurate

Due to a hot discussion at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/69348 I noticed that the use of word "Manager" in local groups is generating so much confusion. Some people thinks that is a position of privilege and power, also as door open to abuse of power, etc. Also, when somebody creates a group: http://groups.drupal.org/node/add/og, there is any advice regarding local groups and the role that a "Manager" has.

Please may we define what exactly are the powers of a "Manager" and rethink about this word? can we use another more accurate?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Improved user profiles on g.d.o - what do you want to see?

We often talk about how someone who has been around the community for a while can take a look at the user profile page on drupal.org and get a real sense for the person with the account.

The groups.drupal.org profile doesn't have quite as much useful information in as small of a format. Here are some things that seem interesting to me. I'd love to get more ideas on which metrics about a user we might expose to help their profile become a simplified representation of their involvement in this site:

Group Categories Issues

Apologies if this is a known issue, but a search didn't uncover it.

I find the behavior of the "Group Categories" block on the right quite odd. As I move from one group to another it frequently shows the taxonomy for a group other than the one I'm clearly in. Sometimes (frequently) it is a group I was recently in. Sometimes (occasionally) it is a group I've never been in (and pretty sure I never read a post from).

This is definitely a functionality issue as a number of groups use taxonomy to good effect.
