Media

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

The Media group is the working group for the Drupal 7 File entity module, Media module and all the various modules that extend Media. The Media group is a place for all interested parties to collaborate and discuss anything related to the Drupal Media "ecosystem".

Strategies for moving features from stage to production?

It's gotten to the point I've realized I should stop mucking around with features on our live site and create a stage or development site.

This seems tricky with a newspaper, though, because if you work on the stage for a week and then just move it live, you're wiping out a week's worth of uploaded content.

What are you using for moving features, etc from stage to production?

Forthcoming Media Alpha!

So we're this close to an alpha for the Media module (for d7). There are only a few outstanding critical alpha-blocking issues that need to be resolved. I'd hoped to have it today, but it looks like it'll probably be Monday.

Next week is the time for you to jump in if you're interested in developing for the project! It's been loads of fun, from the initial discussions and plans over a year ago with arthurf, dopry, drewish, Roger López, myself and others, to fantastic core Drupal 7 integration of stream wrappers by pwolanin and GSOC student jmstacey, to some powerhouse #d7ux magic by mverbaar and Jody Lynn, to the latest overhaul introducing Media fieldable entities (with an eye for core Drupal 8) and WYSIWYG integration by JacobSingh and dipen chaudhary, with some potential upcoming fine-tuning from jQuery guru dmitrig01.

If you're interested, join us in IRC at #drupal-media. After giving the module a spin (you'll need Drupal 7 Alpha 1, Media, Styles, and WYSIWYG + CKEditor, and optionally Media: Flickr and/or Media: YouTube), you should subscribe to the Issue queue. (You can also see recent screenshots at AaronWinborn.com.)

Best practice for user-generated video sharing site?

Hi all,

I am building a user-generated video sharing site for my client. He wants users with appropriate role can submit their videos to the site and share it. A problem is, for some reasons unknown to me, he wants to use FTP instead of FileField upload functionality to submit a video. Then he wants to get these files hosted by a CDN provider and embed in a node a video file which is retrieved from a CDN provider. A video can last 1 hour or longer sometimes.

Image management - the never ending problem!

Hi,

As we all know image, any file actually, management is one of Drupal's biggest weaknesses. It has been debated since the beginning and there exist a virtual labyrinth of different solutions for it. I would say that looking at all the modules touching this more or less all features needed for Drupal to have excellent file management exist. The problem though is that very little is compatible with each other (won't go into that snake pit in this post though...)

Drupal Media, Now with Fieldable Entities!

If you haven't looked recently, there's been some huge progress recently for Drupal's Media module. Jacob Singh from Acquia has jumped on board, paving the way for fieldable entities! This allows Media asset objects to be a first class Drupal citizen, alongside Nodes, Users, Taxonomy, and Comments. (Hopefully in core for Drupal 8!) Also, Dipen Chaudhary has been hard at work providing WYSIWYG support!

Media Sprint in NYC a Success!

The Media Sprint in late October was amazing! Jody and Maarten hunkered in one corner and bashed out the UI, while Peter and Darrel worked out some of the FileField integration. Meanwhile Arthur whipped out a File Metadata implementation, and I began teasing the existing work out of Drupal 6 and into Drupal 7.

Only local images are allowed.

Also in the fray were Jonathan, Forest, Rob, Oleg, and Jen, who participated in varying degrees. Jen also took the opportunity to begin a cool new core theme for Drupal 7, and with Darrel's help took some time to give us a pre-fab image field with core articles! W00T!

The sprint was an amazing success. The module actually works now, as evidenced by Arthur's demonstration screencast. After installing Media, you can actually browse your file system in the administrative screen, with lovely thumbnails representing the file objects. The same action is also available when uploading a new file.

In the past couple of weeks, we've also made strides towards implementing remote streams, with the Media: YouTube module almost ready for unveiling.

videoField module with many video formats

Finally, I could involve myself to videoField module development from few days back. Now I'm planing to start some solid development on videoField.

Currently we only have one video type(flv) is supported by videoField and I added many video types like did in video module. See the HEAD for the latest.

We would like to hear some expert voices here before we go for the next release of the videoField. Where we should go and what are the video features we can support?.

My main intention is support real video experience to the Drupal users with the videoField.

Facebook Connect

The web presence of SpareChangeNews.Net remains, unfortunately, small at best. As a primarily print publication, we've had a hard time getting our writers and editors on board with the website, let alone our readers.

FFMPEG & Media Mover Qs

FFMPEG doesn’t seem to be working for me which also means Media Mover isn’t working, and apparently hasn’t since DOM were here to do the install, I’ve been sorting other issues so hadn’t looked at it until last week.

ffmpeg was actually at /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg not /usr/bin/ffmpeg but this didn’t resolve the issue; is this because this points to ffmpeg on the webserver and not on the encoder, and if so what should the link be?

Other potentially pertinent info:
I couldn’t find the vhook libraries (so that field on the ffmpeg wrapper page is empty).
