The Media group is the working group for the Drupal 7 File entity module, Media module and all the various modules that extend Media. The Media group is a place for all interested parties to collaborate and discuss anything related to the Drupal Media "ecosystem".
File Management
From my experience,there are a few major things lacking in Drupal. One of them that I have encountered a lot is the ability - or inability to manage files/documents effectively. I'd like to start laying the groundwork for a comprehensive file (or at least document) manager that allows some of the more popular feature requests e.g check in/check out, protected files & directories etc.

Piggybacking on AHAH
For the Media module, I'm trying to attach a new behavior to an AHAH form submit button. I need to open a previously hidden form element, BEFORE the ajax has loaded. This is ultimately for a throbber/progress indicator, and to allow the user to enter meta-data without having to wait for the 120MB video to finish uploading.

Need "Spinner" and "Complete" icons
I have a request for a UI element if someone wants to make or find a GPL compliant icon set for the Media module. Here's the issue.
We need to have a spinner "progress" indicator (which should just be something that spins, as it's not true percentage complete, just a spinner telling us the upload is in progress). Then a checkbox or something to display when the upload is complete. Something similar to how YouTube does it. (I can attach screenshots of that if someone needs.)

- Whether or not the idea is crazy, hence why it hasn't been implemented before.

FTP API and S3 API modules proposal
In the ongoing process of simplifying module development and reducing the duplication of effort, I'm proposing creating two modules- FTP API and S3 API. These modules will only provide these services and some configuration API. They will not provide a UI for the actual browsing and moving of files. I see the following functionality for each module:
- getting file list from specified directory
- getting file
- putting file
- setting file permissions
- global settings (user/pass, directory)
- per-user settings (optional)
