Reuse node (image as node and attached to other node)

Dear all,

I want to migrate our companies newspaper website to Drupal. This website made from Code Igniter Framework and created a year before i worked here by other programmer. I don't have time to learn CI, because i use in learning drupal.

What i want to know:
Is there a way to create 2 node (image and news) with a condition news node create first, after that image node attach to news node. If image already exist then there is a search box to find the image and attach to news node, but if image doesn't exist then there is a facility to upload that image and attach to news new.

Cleveland Free Press Using Drupal 6.x

Decided earlier this month to head to Cleveland, Ohio to start up Cleveland Free Press ... Nothing too special - yet - but it shows how easy Drupal is to get what one user has called "an official looking" site.

Comments/criticism welcome. Still a lot to do - still in the "soft launch" stage.

Thanks - and Happy New Year.

Any way to set up a "charge per word" ad system?

Our newspaper wants to offer people the ability to place orders for classified ads online. In my head, I can picture how the system could work -- but I can't figure out how it could be done in Drupal.

The ad rates would be based on a per-word charge. For example, the first 12 words would be $12, with each additional word 35 cents extra.

If I could design the perfect system, there would be a field that would provide a dynamic count of the total number of words.

Then the system would run a calculation of how much the ad would cost.

Publish one node per day

This seems like such a straightforward, common requirement and I haven't been able to find or come up with a solution. It also seems like something that would be needed by a newspaper site. I'm sure once there is a solution out in cyberspace it will be appreciated.

Publish one node per day
Allow the user to create as many nodes as s/he wants, whenever s/he wants.
The system will publish one of these nodes per day.

I've seen the question asked:
eg: http://drupal.org/node/374592

Content Type for "section" URLs?

This is sort of a concept question. I wonder what sites are doing to get URLs for stories to reflect what might be called sections of a print publication, for example, ../news/big-fire-today or ../realestate/foreclosures-down-in-4th-quarter, etc. It appears to me that setting up Content Types for each category would be one approach. I might end up with:

News
Sports
Outdoors
Business & Real Estate
Arts
Food
...and so on

Best homepage design for slow publishing news site

We have a news site, we dont put out 100's of articles a day. Actually we post about 15 articles a day.
Our current design is the normal news layout but it seems as if the site is standing still because old content remains on the page too long.

What is the best layout for a slow news publishing website? Is it blog format maybe? Any tips?

How do I create a different header for different sections?

How do I create a different header for different sections?

For example, if I have the main News section and then Chamber of Commerce and then Multimedia, and I want each of those sections have a different header that adds distinction to that section.

Is this done by creating different page-front.tpl.php, page-news.tpl.php, page-chamber.tpl.php, etc...? Also, how do I make sure the subordinate pages keep the same header?

Thank you,
Joe

HELP: Hiding fields (in my case, images) that are empty when using CCK

I'm making an article/story content type with CCK and I have it looking the way I want it to but a dilemma has arisen: how do you hide fields that are styled with CSS when no data is entered. In my specific situation, an article contains all the fields needed (headline, byline, text) but no image is imputed.

I have images styled so that they float to the left and the text will wrap around (similar to the way it would in usatoday.com). But if no image is uploaded, the styling is still visible and leaves an awkward space where it would have been. See the screen shots below.

Creating an edition-based journal - A newbie needs help!

I am tasked with creating an online journal. It will be similar to a newspaper in terms of organization. The idea is that articles are published as part of an "edition". New Editions are published monthly. A link to the current edition will appear in the "main menu" as "Current Edition". So far I've done the following:

  1. Created an "Article" content type which is the article to be published in a given edition
  2. Created an "Edition" content type with a node reference field that allows the user to select all nodes belonging to this edition.

My questions are:

How to embed a view into a node?

I was wondering if someone could recommend the best way to embed a view (related articles, etc...) in the body of a node... similar to how the Onion does it in the attached screenshot.

Thank you.

Panels pages, terms and confusion

Hi
We have a fairly large news site. We make pages where all the news of each topic is located for instance /topic
The problem is that we use a page then we create views from a certain term and put those views in there, so we have about 100's of topics with its own terms. This causes us to make 100's of views to put in each page.

Is there a easy way to get clone the pages and just change the term once to the new page's term?

for instance, i have /japan then i can change change the term somewhere and it will all be switched to /china so i dont have to create 100s of views for china?

Google Analytics and article read count

Hello,

I was hoping someone could clarify the numbers Google Analytics gives me for my site.

I have the Google Analytics module installed and when I check out the stats, it tells me that such and such a story only had 14 pageviews (9 unique pageviews) over the course of a month, but the admin tells me it had 1,822 total views.

The discrepancy is huge. I find it hard to believe that 9 people (or IP addresses) are contributing to 1,822 pageviews. This seems to be the pattern for most of the stories on the site. Low numbers in Google, yet at least a few hundred in the admin.

For all you ExtendScripters out here

Hi guys,

Long time no see. I know there are a couple of people here who are using Adobe ExtendScript to interact with InDesign from within Drupal or the other way around and do web-to-print stuff. If you don't, feel free to ignore this message. If you do, I thought you'd be interested in knowing that I've just released an MIT-licensed open-source framework for ExtendScript.

Web-to-print with Drupal, InDesign CS2, NewsEditPro IQue 3.5.9

Our website is built on the ProsePoint profile ... but a few weeks ago, we had to replace the ProsePoint WYSIWYG editor with CKEditor because of compatibility issues with Panels.

This has created huge problems, because the ProsePoint editor had a "Paragraph" option in the "Format" section. When we would copy-and-paste text from NewsEditPro into the website, all of the paragraph breaks in NewsEditPro (single hard returns) would turn into line breaks:

France24 AEF modules versus OpenPublishApp - opinions requested for comparison

I'd welcome your thoughts on the positives and negatives of both systems that extend drupal for publishers.

My situation is that I've installed the France 24 AEF modules on my development non-production site but don't know how to use them, make them visible.

I'm considering OpenPublishApp also (instead, i.e not co-existing with France24) but haven't tried it yet.

My initial thoughts are:

France24:
Positives:
- proof of concept with France24: high-traffic news site
- substantial suite of modules designed with journalists in mind to add content easily with minimum training
