The October 14th Drupal NYC meetup is a day before the end of the Drupal 7 code slush, so we obviously are going to have a small code sprint. But this doesn't mean we can't have a wonderful design talk about beginner Drupal theming and grid patterns! There are still some open discussion slots available, so please submit your ideas.

I'd like to demonstrate a mail broadcast system for publications
I have developed a method for sending graphic rich emails to clients like gmail.com that are unfriendly to HTML email messages that use CSS. Drupal can create email newsletters that retain their graphics when they are sent to 'problem' clients, and can also take advantage of mass mail backends that enhance Drupal's ability to publish with features like click tracking, personalization and content customization. This capability adds a new dimension to Drupal's incredibly powerful content and user management strengths.
D4D + D7 Themes
I'm happy to talk about the state of Drupal Design, and the movement to create a website at designfordrupal.org.
Also theming for D7: basic changes, the need for themes, etc. Code freeze might be Oct 15, but for many of us, that's the beginning, not the end. Theme development and documentation are just getting going!

I would love to hear more about this !
I hear the chatter and i am interested in what the h*ll is going on :)

Further planning. Discuss and perhaps collaborate on sessions, etc.
Aw Shucks
Family commitment so alas won't be seeing you all this time.
However for anyone going to the Hudson Valley Drupal Camp in New Paltz I'll see you there!
What's the format of your meet-ups?
I've got a small web development with a small team based out of Toronto, and I make it out to the Toronto meet-ups when I can. Our meet-ups are usually very casual usually with a single informal session. I'll be in town on the 14th and would love to come by and see what NY drupal all's about - as it sounds like you've got a mini-drupal camp format going.
I'm no drupal ninja, but do have a few projects under the belt. When we're working on a project we generally try to push ourselves a bit - and most recent challenge was with our client's IT "guru" flaming Drupal's admittedly brutal UI for content administrators. (I'm guessing I'm not the only one who's had this kind of issue come up).
The site's in Drupal 6, and the front end site was done and approved - and we were moving on to cleaning up the back end. This was when the client's forwarded me their outsourced IT's guys' email which started with "Yuk - Why would you want want a site in Drupal - Do you have a programmer to maintain it? "
This set the "in-house goal" for the project. Our goal was simply see how far we could improve the UI for the content admin role. My benchmark aim for was to match joomla / wordpress for ease of use. At the end of the day the client said "Hey this isn't very confusing... it's actually pretty easy". So I consider that a victory.
So the suggestion is for an basic-intermediate Drupal session "Improving the life of Joe-Content-Admin in Drupal 6". It would be be a fairly basic topic, but it sure took us a while to get where we ended up so it may save someone a few hours. I can't wait for Drupal 7's UI improvements - but until then we can improve D6 for content admins.
Cheers - Aidan

Hey Joe
Is this a session topic you'd like to lead for 15 minutes? If you have some examples with solutions that you found, this seems like a fine 15 minute mini-topic.
Great that you will be in town to attend the meeting!
ƒorest mars
10-15 minutes sounds perfect.
Hi,
It's definitely a short little tour. It's really just a quick show and tell for a single project (ubequity.fosterinteractive.com) which is currently the best solution we're managed to build for ease of use.
I'm not sure if you break down into different groups but this would be something most useful for noobies. If the group is all experienced developers it may be too basic.
Would I be able to borrow someone's laptop during the presentation? - I'd just need internet access.
Cheers - I look forward to the meet up.
Aidan
most likely
Hmm, I've never heard of a Drupaler without their laptop :-o but yes typically someone will have a deck you can use.
Eclipse Wizardry...
I would LOVE if someone could teach us some Eclipse PDT / Xdebug tips specific to developing for Drupal. Also, I am looking to do some work with a team that can mentor me on EXPERT level development. I currently work on contract (as lead developer) for a client in Asia, but I would really like to work with some gurus who can help me take it to the next level.
See you in a couple weeks!
Antonio
Pain in life is necessary. Suffering is optional.
Early demonstrator
I would like to show case a new mobilization service we are developing (and that I have showcased at Drupalcon Paris).
The 13th is our official launching day, but I would be happy to gather some early feedback from the audience.
So i'll take the floor for 15 minutes ;)
Further, I just launched http://drupal.org/project/zendesk ... If anyone is interested in Zendesk integration with Drupal... let me know
GeoIP-enabled directory
I'd like 5 minutes to discuss the GeoIP-enabled directory I'm building for http://autism.healingthresholds.com.
More info here: http://drupal.org/node/580244
I can do a n00bie bof
as long as i can catch Jen's presentation ... if she is up for it :)
Impromtu Agenda
Great, so far we have the following possible topics:
<
pre>
CSS Grid patterns Rob? 15 ?
GeoIP directory Dan Kohn 15 mins
mobile service Tom 15 mins
D4D7 Jen 15 mins
Mail broadcast Wildfeed 15 mins
"Joe-content-admin" ? afoster 15 mins
Facebook Connect frank <15 minutes
DrupalcampNYC 7 winston bof/sidebar?
So that's at least 90 minutes right there. If everyone covers their basic material in 10 minutes with 5 minutes for Q&A, this may work pretty well; that gives us an hour for introductions, code sprint & flex time.
We usually waste a bit of time getting set up between topics and also deciding on the order.
Reminder: Free DrupalCamp Hudson Valley - Sat October 17th 2009
Hi NYC Group,
Just a reminder that the Free DrupalCamp Hudson Valley is this weekend in New Paltz, NY. Many folks from the NYC group will be attending, so if anyone wants to share a ride, visit the wiki page, or touch base at the meetup. Presentations are still open so feel free to add it to the wiki page below. Hope to see you there.

Would love to hear a discussion of this. Curious to hear which module you use to accomplish/method you use to accomplish this and how.
It just works
fbconnect module just works OOB. You do have to make sure you have your fb dev account set up correctly, but their documentation of this isn't too terrible. (fb I mean, not LaNets.)
I haven't done any code auditing of this module, but it works well and didn't have any theming issues.
I've updated the possible topics list. Since you can easily install this module from scratch in 15 minutes "we'll do it live" o_O
