Hey, I've been interested in a bunch of hardware projects I'd like to start messing with, and figured I'd see if any geeks around here shared the interest.
I want to start building some http://www.adafruit.com/ projects, like mintyboost. I'll work on my soldering skills there and then move on to things like arduinos (open source microcontrollers). I have no clear idea for a project to collaborate on, but here are some things that have interested me lately.

Sounds cool. Do you know about
HTINK?

Cool stuff. I've had a
Cool stuff. I've had a couple different versions of the mintyboost over the years, and other odd gadgets, RF multipliers, blockers, hijackers, etc.
I actually design casings for stuff like this too, mostly steampunk stuff. I'd be interested in what kind of projects you have in mind. I've also been looking at el wire a bunch lately and i think it would be cool to get signs up in random places (urban el wire graffiti anyone?) to get awareness going on certain things. Plus most store owners would let you put up cool flashy things in their display windows anyway. Imagine walking down stanton in the LES and all of a sudden there's a series of el signs reacting to light and sound, maybe doing more than that, saying stuff like '<3 drupal,' etc.
I have ideas till kingdom come. Now if I only had the time and resources.
Sweet!
@fureigh : thanks for the link! HTINK is interesting, but it looks like not much going on there in the last few years. Any previous experience with hardware?
I found this related site, posted on HTINK: http://www.makenyc.org/ Looks like they had a meeting in october at least. The have a mailing list too, that I signed up for.
@orbgasm - nice to see you are interested in this stuff as well as your other hackish pursuits :)

Resistor
I was taking classes at NYC Resistor for a little while. They're really cool over there. I'm sure you can find people there who want to collaborate on some projects with you.

YES!
This is great. They look very active, and have regular classes on everything from hacking a furbie to basic electronics. I actually saw a guy with a makeshift electric guitar on the subway a few weeks ago, and he mentioned he was just coming from a class at NYC resistor. They also have a "Craft Night" from 6pm to 9am on Thursdays. I think I'll try to head over with a couple beers and check it out. Another plus for me is that they are in DT Brooklyn... sweet!
Anyone else interested for this Thursday night to check it out?

NYCResistor
I thought I had commented to this group on NYCResistor before, so if I did not or it got lost somehow I really apologize. I wondered why nobody ever answered me about it! This group is WONDERFUL. I know one of the very active members there. Thursday nights are definitely the nights to go - "craft night" - as they are an invitation-only group and that is their only open meeting. It's awesome!!! Ask about the robotic bartender...
