Hey all last meetup went really well I think and we had a great turn out. There was some discussion after the meetup about topics getting covered, along side the Q & A and Drupal assistance, and I couldn't agree more. So with that in mind I posted a wiki page asking folks to post ideas and whether they were willing to present or asking for someone to tackle the subject. Please go over to http://groups.drupal.org/node/46282 and make your suggestions. I was talking with one of the organizers of Themer's Playday in New York tomorrow http://groups.drupal.org/node/39304 johnvsc and his idea is to do them possibly every other month. At the last meetup we had some discussion about running a NJ Themer's Play day, I think it is a great idea, and I would suggest that we start looking at maybe April for that so that we can stagger it between the New York ones. I am also keeping that in mind for scheduling this meetup the New York Drupal group's meeting in February is 2/10 http://groups.drupal.org/node/43930 and the Northern NJ meetups that happen at the Panera in Radburn are scheduled for 2/11 so this meetup doesn't conflict with any others that I know of in the area.
Hope to see you there,
Robbie
The meetup will be held at the Panara in Ramsey NJ.

Hey folks what would you like to discuss? Talk amongst yourselves http://groups.drupal.org/node/46282 :)

Views, Panels, Preprocessing with template.php, Ajax, jQuery
While I have a grasp of how most of these work, I'm interested in exploring these topics a bit further. If anyone has lots of experience or wants to explore the very basic side, post a comment.
Views, Panels, Preprocessing with template.php, Ajax, jQuery
As a newbie I want to get a better grasp of Views, Panels, Preprocessing with template.php, Ajax, jQuery.
I am most interested to explore the very basic side.
Please keep me informed.
Sounds like we could do a Views & Panels walkthrough?
I think that makes a lot of sense, the Drupal Core plus (as some have come to call it CCK, Views, Panels, ... )
I look forward to Wednesday night, if you are coming please signup so we have an idea of numbers :)

Damn
Nothing personal. I was interested but did not realize this is in NJ. Too far.
No reason to apologize, there
No reason to apologize, there are local meetups to accommodate the needs of all the users and possible users of Drupal. This is a smaller group where people local in Northern NJ can come to get assistance and help out others, and once and a while a presentation :)
Hope that if you end up in our neck of the woods you can have a place to pop in and ask a question or answer someones :)

My new project
I would love to show you guys a new project I am working on... maybe 10-15 mins at most.

Sounds great I love show and
Sounds great I love show and tell :) See you Wed. sir!
Views, Panels, Preprocessing with template.php, Ajax, jQuery
This sounds great.
As a Drupal newbie who develop more Web Applications more than Web Sites, I would be interested in hearing anything about methodology as I am having trouble mapping a data processing approach (where one designs a comprehensive database first and then designs the interfaces for admining the data and the uses of the data later) and CCK/Views.
Thanks.
I'm signed up but...
I'm not 100% sure I can make it. I will try my best
Next Month...
Sorry folks, can't make this one. I'll see ya in March!

So we do some in-depth Views, CCK and Panels...
...next time. In any case, this group is shaping up well. Lots of interest, good variety of experience levels.
I absolutely agree
I think this was the most productive meetup so far :) I can totally do the convert robbiethegeek.com from a blog that makes me sad to a status update portal with views, panels.

Content Access
Automatic Nodetitles
Markup
Better Formats
Thanks for your show & tell
By you doing this, it brought a lot of things up, topics of discussion, modules used (as listed above :-) ).
Good job, you have a great grasp of what you needed to accomplish and what modules exist that can help you get there.
See you next month,
Robbie
Thanks everyone - I am greatly encouraged
I want to thank everyone for your comments and suggestions. I learned a lot last night. I also want to apologize for taking up so much time. As I catch up in my knowledge I hope the basic questions will become fewer and be more interesting for the group in general. In the meantime, I will try to write up what I learn as guidance for others that might be having the same challenges getting started.
Bill
I believe your questions and
I believe your questions and issues force serious discussion, and that is great, don't feel the need to apologize it is very helpful & useful I think. I think any documentation you can help with will be fantastic I urge you and anyone with issues to join and assist the http://groups.drupal.org/documentation-team it is with end users and their issues that better documentation can happen for you and for others that come across these kinds of issues.

Question about Groups
I just posted a question in the Drupal forum (http://drupal.org/node/719620) but it appears that several of you have experience with Drupal Groups so I thought I would ask it here also.
I have been trying to find others who have similar interests to mine and I have been going through the Drupal Groups. Since I am looking for people with specific interests, I was looking through Working Groups.
Unfortunatly,
I did nto see anything that would lead me to believe working groups tend to collectively build a body of knowledge about their area of interest. If they do, how does one find out where it is?
If Drupal groups is not the place to discuss and build knowledge on a relatively specific subject area, where might one find others who might share common interest and want to discuss/share infiormation on that topic?
I have organized user communities in other areas in the past, and I guess I would have expected that each group would get it's own community web site with blogging, a wiki, chatting, who in the group is currently on line, discussion forums, FAQs, newsletters, etc. where one could have discussions and jointly build up a body of knowledge about the subject area (of course also answering how-to and support questions from others at the same time). This could also include scheduled virtual meet-ups with webinar capability built in to each group site. Resource libraries with links to all kinds of information sites about the narrow field of interest, etc. I am not thinking to make something where the group participants would have to do great amount of work on their own. It should be possible to have a multi-site (or sub-site) architecture where whenever a group is created, a startup site would be cloned as a new site with all of the above functionality already built in.
Am I looking in the wrong place and that type of collaboration is elsewhere (I am not thinking just about documentation, but about deep discussions of pros and cons about various topics within a focused subject space).
Is three someone or some group in charge of Drupal Groups where one could discuss such things?
Thanks for any input.
