Anyone carpooling to DrupalCampLA from LA?

Howdy fellow Drupaleros! Going my way?

Just wondering if anyone will be driving down from LA both days & would like to carpool? I’m close to the 105 FWY where the Blue/Green Lines intersect (basically, smack dab in between the 110 FWY & the 710 FWY), so can go to you if it's easier for you. I’d be glad to chip in for gas, pay for parking or buy ya lunch. :)

Normally, I’d take the train(s) in but MTA.net found zero results for that destination.

DrupalCampLA BoF around the GDO/la Organizer Block Discussion online at GDO

FYI LA members:

http://groups.drupal.org/node/69908#comment-555294

is where the GDO/la Organizer Block discussion was moved to. There are half a dozen posts already. We need more input before this weekend. Looks like I volunteered to run a BoF this weekend. I just posted the below:

LADrupal should provide an example, like requested, but if our group can not agree, then it turns into several examples. I suspect the example of choice will be to make it go away. I am going to requested of the LA group to provide feedback to my examples. It will take some time.

A request for trainings on gdo/la

Howdy fellow LA Drupaleros!

This is something I've been thinking for a while & feel like I should formally make a request. A discussion regarding what others in the community feel/want is encouraged.

Can we separate Trainings out from Events on gdo/la, please?

A patching sprint?

I'm fairly certain some of us in the LA community are working on patches for Drupal (both for Drupal Core and for Contrib modules). I am currently doing the same and have noticed that quite a few issues fall by the wayside getting stuck on needs review or needs work (and some of the core developers are genuinely busy working on other (maybe larger) issues to give whatever we're working some TLC).

LA Drupal Governance Proposal

I believe that it is time to examine this group's structure. I would like to suggest that anyone interested in being the sole leader of the group nominate themselves, and that we have an election or elections until one person gets the majority of the votes.

The elected leader would be the decision maker for LA Drupal for the next 12 months (or ???) and could put their name in for reelection if they like. The new leader would oversee the activities of this group and have direct responsibility for the organization of the meeting currently held in Culver City.

Drupal and the crashing server

Hi all,

I have a problem. Yesterday a very large influx of visitors to our site brought down our server! :( After some investigation we noticed that we had about 10K visitors in a 9min span before our server went down. We were told by our tech support that our server requires more memory (currently at 2GB) and to reduce the phpMemory limit (currently at 128MB) as well the the number of maximum Clients served.

Page Load performance and CPU impact

Hi all,

I am wondering about the impact of gzipping CSS and JS files (after aggregation) in comparison to CPU cycles. In our Drupal site I have installed and enabled the JS and CSS aggregation modules, but they weren't utilized. So after some investigation I asked our hosts tech support and they confirmed that we're not serving resources compressed. From what I understood it was not enabled on the server side.

I was told that utilizing compression (gzip) would not provide me significant amount of savings, but impact the CPU cycles substantially.
