Zen Task Force

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

The Zen theme aims to be the ultimate standards-compliant starting theme for Drupal. The name is an homage to the CSS Zen Garden and its aim to completely redefine the look of a site purely through CSS.

This group seeks to solidify the Zen theme to make sure that it is truly pliable, flexible, and adaptable. We will also discuss and implement improvements and future directions for this theme framework and for Drupal theming in general.

You can also find some of us hanging out in the #drupal-design IRC chatroom.

Zen Conference call audio file

I've had a bit of a problem compessing the audio file down from its Huge 70+meg, but I know how I hate to wait. So I have uploaded the raw file for those of you as impatient as I am.

Call for sub-themes

According to our conference call, jjeff wants more sub-themes in the default distribution.
Your sub-theme should have just a style.css, and it should work out of the box.
It needs to include good code style, and the code must be GPL.
Please comment with a theme that you would like to add.

Zen Round Table Conference Call

Start:
2007-05-05 18:00 - 20:00 US/Eastern

I'd like to organize a conference call to discuss what people need out of the Zen theme. I haven't been giving this project as much attention as it deserves and I hope to compensate by organizing a Skypecast phone call to hear everyone's needs, philosophies, and try to actually organize this Task Force once and for all to create a solid, bug free (working in IE!!), core-worthy, theme system.

Zen subthemes and Full themes BLock Issues

Hi there, I have been scouring the support forums for something about Zen block settings for subthemes in a multi-theme environment but nothing yet.

Can anyone here verify that you can run Zen and Zen-fixed and configure block differently for each of the themes?

I have created an interesting environment an an attempt to share some assets between the subthemes I have made. Sort of like Zen sub theme families.

Have we lost our (Zen) way?

Howdy folks! I know we're all busy with our non-Drupal lives which is probably some of the reasons we haven't seen much new work with Zen. Perhaps when the intention was that "Out of the box, Zen is clean and simple with a provided fixed-width subtheme called Zen-fixed" we are getting a little too far ahead of ourselves with some of the bigger ideas floating around. All good ideas and I want to hear more. However, with Zen still at 0.6 perhaps we need to just complete some of the simpler tasks so we can get Zen up to the 1.0 level.

Zen tables - which CSS to modify

Ok, I'm using the Zen theme over at my personal site and as an example of what I'm trying to do is explained here http://superjacent.net/cms/?q=node/549 which I'll repeat anyway.

Could somebody lead me through which files need to be altered in order to achieve this:-

For any given page (post) I want to position a table (4 row, 2 column) at the top left of the page. I want the body of text (outside of the table) to commence at the top of the page and flowing down on the right of the table and eventually merging back to the left of page on extending below the table.

Zen with infinite image flexibility

Hi,
I'm very new to Drupal, wasted a week with Joomla before the poor template adaptability to skill ratio got me (all those annoying tables). Have been learning CSS mainly through playing with CSS Zen Garden, though my page is still going through iterations before I get it to do what I want without being able to create different style sheets to compensate for the quirks of different browsers.

Anyway what I want to do is similar to having the extradivs in CSSZenGarden.

So far I've added
- image divs to style.css
with position: absolute;
and width and height 100%;

Accessibility Issues

I know y'all are talking about getting all fancy with sub-themes and other bells & whistles, but my main interest in the Zen Theme is accessibility, which is one of the advantages of separating content from presentation.

Whew... and all that the word implies.

Hello All !

I'm brand new to the Drupal way, and optimizing ZEN where I need to. I've recently undertaken the task of converting a friends website from static HTML to a Drupal driven business/hobbyist site.

Another theming working group

The newly minted 'Zen Task Force' may provide some great project orientated learning opportunities in realm of theming. Seems like it would tie in quite nicely as an extension to the great Dojo theming lesson as well as our work on Merlin's 'Themer Pack Project'?

Brain Dump: Configurable theme

I've been thinking that in order to truly have a purely CSS-modifiable theme, many designers are going to wish that they could move around bits and pieces of the HTML. Should taxonomy be before or after the node content? Likewise with the name/date attribution... and the links. Should the messages appear above or below the help... or somewhere else on the page completely? Allowing Zen subthemes to define their own template.php, node.tpl.php, comment.tpl.php etc... is definitely the beginning of this..

Full fledged subthemes

Don't know if everyone is aware of this yet, but I've recently committed some changes that allow Zen subthemes to have their own node.tpl.php, node-type.tpl.php, page-path.tpl.php, comment.tpl.php block.tpl.php, etc... Subthemes can also now have their own template.php files!!!

This means that you could create a subtheme that is primarily CSS based, but also modifies the way that comments are displayed, or overrides some theme functions.
