Austin

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Welcome to the Austin Drupal Users Group!

As of April 2025, we are no longer posting events in this group (there are too many places to post events and groups.drupal.org is dying a slow death).

TxDUG / Texas Drupal organizers are collecting contact info for Drupalers in Texas so we can stop being reliant on other platforms (here’s looking at you Meetup.com) for communicating announcements. Please fill out this form so we can email you about Drupal events in Texas (you can choose which regions).

Please join us in the #austin-texas channel on Drupal Slack. If you aren't already on Drupal Slack, join here.

We continue to post our meetups in Drupal.org's Community Events section.

For now, RSVPs for our meetups are in our Meetup Group, but this might change in the future. Best to be in our Slack channel or on our email list.

Hope to see you at an upcoming meetup!

At DrupalCon?

If so, please be sure to say hi to my friend Everett Zufelt (he's the one with the dog in this photo).

Everett is a great coder and has made quite a few contributions to Drupal 7 in particular. If you were at the CoreDev Summit, you saw him give a killer of a lightning talk about how to make accessibility an integral part of Drupal's continued development.

Austin, Texas Now nominated for a Webby

The Austin Chamber of Commerce's Austin, Texas Now site has been nominated for a Webby. It's the only Drupal (and Austin) site in the category, and I think it's a great showcase of some Drupal capabilities. I may be biased (I'm one of the developers), but if you like the site you can vote for it here:

What do you use to manage projects/tasks/clients?

I am an independent Drupal consultant, and until I began sharing work and overlapping projects, I was doing ok with a personal wiki, google docs, and FreshBooks. Lately, however, I find myself sharing more workload with others (and having to ping back periodically, "How is it coming?" as well as touching base with the client with status updates on things I can't readily know), and I would like to hear what tools you have found useful and why.

I'll start it off :)

Drupal and Dries - Like your feedback..

I had the pleasure of meeting the creator of Drupal, Dries Buytaert, at SXSW Interactive. In addition to creating Drupal, he’s the CTO of Acquia, and Mollom the spam fighter. The following blog post is a compilation or my notes (tweets) from the @Guidelight account. http://www.guidelightsolutions.com/blog/drupal-and-dries

Like your feedback and let me know what you think.

Don't fight the Taxonomy!

All my years, I've been fighting Drupal Taxonomy. It's convenient and powerful, but I just haven't got the kind of grasp of it that I can use it effectively. I use it in my own kludgey ways but usually remove the terms bit from node.tpl.php to avoid unfederated browsing. Better, however, would be to embrace taxonomy browsing and learn to theme it better to suit my needs.

Can anyone share a similar journey (on through to a successful, satisfying end) to help guide me there?

Drupalcon SF Lodging (~$20/night)

Hello Texas Drupalers!

Are you going to DrupalconSF? Interested in saving some money on lodging? I've been looking into options for cheap lodging and unless I do couch surfing I'll probably get a bed at a hostel. I found some great options on Hostel World with rates around $20/night, but I wanted to see how interested people were interested in sharing a private room. Some hostels are well within walking distance of the Moscone Center, include free wifi & free breakfast.

Drupal monitoring modules?

So I've asked around some of the Drupal boards a bit, and I can't find anyone that has a solid handle on a easy to use drupal webserver health reporting module. Currently I switch back and forth between Nagios and Cacti depending on client needs, but what I'd love to see is a drupal module that can just check simple stuff like cpu load, ram, swap, caching, and webtraffic load. There's a nagios drupal module, but that requires setting up Nagios and that takes more setup time than a lot of my clients want to bother with. Anybody got any ideas? Or should I just get off my rump and make one?
