Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

About Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)

Greater Los Angeles Drupal Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) is the umbrella group for most of the Drupal activity in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world. We've been bringing more Drupal to more people since 2010, and have as many as 10 meetups and other events dedicated to Drupal topics each and every month.

Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.

The Greater Los Angeles Drupal leadership team endeavors to actively empower and support volunteers and attendees in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and to provide resources (venues, guidance, equipment, raffle prizes, etc.) and an open governance model with consistency, transparency and accountability.

What's different about this group? (?)

In addition to our unique open governance model, GLAD has a different geographic focus than other regional groups. Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010.

GLAD organizers lead a large number of events in the Greater Los Angeles Area, including Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Culver City, Santa Monica, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Riverside and Ventura.

Image Action for Blend mode: Darken or Multiply?

Hi There, anyone have any code written for a custom Image Style Action that will blend (darken or multiply) an image into a canvas color I provide?

I've been toying with Image Styles Actions module and I can't seem to find a darken/multiply blend mode.

I can't install ImageMagick on this server, if that's important. So I'm hoping for an Action I can load that will process the images as necessary.

Any way to do this with Image Actions or with custom code?

Thanks!!

Greater Los Angeles Drupal Special Event: Silicon Beach Drupal with Friday5.org Founder Michael Berman

Start:
2014-09-16 19:00 - 21:00 America/Los_Angeles
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

We're excited to announce a Greater Los Angeles Drupal Special Event: Silicon Beach Drupal with Friday5.org Founder Michael Berman. This event focuses heavily on the needs of startups, innovative ways to use the Drupal framework and related technologies, and the nuts and bolts of product development and customer acquisition.

Join us on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in Santa Monica, CA, between 7-9pm Pacific. This will be our first-ever meetup at BLANKSPACES Santa Monica. Seating, food and drinks are limited and RSVPs are encouraged.

This is an off-the-record presentation and discussion and there will not be a webcast for this meetup.

Friday5 Demo and Case Study by Michael Berman

Michael Berman Michael Berman is Founder of both Friday5, a Drupal-based crowdfunding platform for nonprofits, and Ready, a real-time location-based mobile app that brings new friends together.

Prior to founding Friday5 and Ready, Michael spent many years selling at Fortune 1000 and Fortune 500 companies. In 2010, he stumbled upon a promising little startup in Silicon Valley called Eventbrite. Michael lead Eventbrite's sales team during two years of rapid company expansion, scaling from 40 to 200+ employees, and was a part of many successes including raising 130m in venture funding.

Michael's Eventbrite experience propelled him to create a company of his own, and it manifested into Friday5, an innovative crowd-funding platform that helps take the guesswork out of finding worthy causes and making tax-deductible donations. Members who sign up at Friday5.org enter their credit card information, select the amount they want to donate to a nonprofit each week, and then receive a weekly email detailing which cause Friday5 has carefully curated for that week’s crowd-funded donation.

In short, Friday5 is helping change the world — one Friday at a time — and they’ve been praised in publications such as Forbes and PandoDaily. Check out the case study, Everybody Loves Friday5: The Crowdfunding Platform for Nonprofits, for some technical information on how Friday5 was designed and engineered.

Attention LA-area Drupal community webmasters, come and get yer sites

Hi everyone, after doing some house keeping it looks to me like all the sites that have been on the "musclebeach" server at SoftLayer since 2010 are either abandoned or have been moved off to other servers.

I'll be wiping this server no sooner than 2 weeks from today. The backups are in Amazon S3 and I don't plan to delete those.

If I'm mistaken and one of the sites listed here is not hosted or backed up elsewhere, please let me know within the next two weeks that you're the proper custodian of that site and I'll give you copies of the site backups I have.

Downtown Drupal Meetup at Barbara's at the Brewery and via Webcast on August 5, 2014: Show & Tell and AbleOrganizer

Start:
2014-08-05 19:00 - 21:00 America/Los_Angeles
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

Greater Los Angeles Drupal The 1st Tuesday of the month is coming up again and it's time for another Downtown Drupal Meetup! Join us at Barbara's at the Brewery near Downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 between 7-9pm Pacific. This meetup is free and there will be food, drinks, and raffle prizes!

Those who would like to attend remotely are welcome to join us via webcast.

Are you new to Drupal or the Downtown Drupal meetup? Come learn about Drupal and how others like yourself are using it for their project, business or organization. We promise not to talk down to you.

At this meetup we're having another Drupal Show & Tell. After some quick introductions and light news and announcements, we'll be going into 5-minute presentations (called lightning talks) on the projects that each person is working on. We won't be able to get to everyone, but everyone who attends will be expected to present on something.

Did you recently attend a great Drupal or tech event that you want to tell us about? Are you currently having a problem that you need help with? Did you solve a problem recently and now have a solution to share with the group? You'll have up to 5 minutes to present and then up to 5 more minutes for Q&A with the other attendees. We'll be using a chess clock to make sure that everyone has enough time.

That's right, it's like Drupal speed chess! (The difference, of course, is that we're not really competing. We're here to share and learn and not "smack down" anybody.)
