The 1st Tuesday of the month is coming up again and it's time for another Downtown Drupal Meetup! Join us at Barbara's at the Brewery near Downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 between 7-9pm Pacific. This meetup is free and there will be food, drinks, and raffle prizes!
Those who would like to attend remotely are welcome to join us via webcast.
Are you new to Drupal or the Downtown Drupal meetup? Come learn about Drupal and how others like yourself are using it for their project, business or organization. We promise not to talk down to you.
At this meetup we're having another Drupal Show & Tell. After some quick introductions and light news and announcements, we'll be going into 5-minute presentations (called lightning talks) on the projects that each person is working on. We won't be able to get to everyone, but everyone who attends will be expected to present on something.
Did you recently attend a great Drupal or tech event that you want to tell us about? Are you currently having a problem that you need help with? Did you solve a problem recently and now have a solution to share with the group? You'll have up to 5 minutes to present and then up to 5 more minutes for Q&A with the other attendees. We'll be using a chess clock to make sure that everyone has enough time.
That's right, it's like Drupal speed chess! (The difference, of course, is that we're not really competing. We're here to share and learn and not "smack down" anybody.)
Thank You to Our Sponsors!
Our technical sponsor and a raffle prize sponsor for this event is Exaltation of Larks, a Drupal design and engineering firm with a team of Drupal experts in Los Angeles. Visit us at www.larks.la and follow us at @LarksLA to learn more about our Drupal services and upcoming trainings.
Our organizing sponsor is Droplabs (@Droplabs), a coworking space, classroom and computer lab in Downtown Los Angeles, California. We're the leading low-cost coworking space in the Greater Los Angeles Area and have services, programs and workspaces that are uniquely designed for entrepreneurs, freelancers, remote workers and lifelong learners.
Zoom, the cloud meeting company, is our phone and video conferencing sponsor. Thanks to Zoom we can present (and record) our meetings to a worldwide audience. Details for joining this meeting remotely are below.
What to Bring
Just bring your laptop, your business cards or whatever else you need. You're also welcome to bring some light food, sodas or beers to share with others at the meetup.
Drupal After Dark
Even if you can't make it to happy hour or the meetup, you're welcome to join us afterward for a Drupal After Dark. After we wrap up the meeting and clean up, a group of us will go to a nearby restaurant or pub. Stay tuned to the comments below for suggestions for a Drupal After Dark location.

Due to this particular meetup's meeting format, the end time for this meeting is fairly fluid and is determined by the number of attendees. Once the meeting is over we'll finish off the night with more networking and a Drupal After Dark.
Our meeting starts promptly at 7pm, so if you're somewhere nearby for happy hour please be sure to request your check along with your food order.

New post on Lesson Learned
Hi,
I just posted a quick lesson on https://drupal.la/articles/pantheon-development-and-drupal-upgrades
about a lesson I learned using the Pantheon environment.
Hope it helps
Thanks
Thanks for the heads-up, Paul!!
What is the reason Pantheon claims you should not update Drupal with Drush? What are they trying to accomplish with this restriction? Are there alternate procedures they'd prefer you use (other than completely by hand..)
Pantheon Update with Drush
The problem is Pantheon uses a PressFlow version of Drush. If you update using Drush you will get the released version of Drupal which will not work on their platoform. PressFlow is an API equivalent version of Drupal but has some modifications for performance and scalability reasons.
Pantheon is pretty quick with generating and testing the PressFlow version it is only a day or two later than Drupal does so it is not a big issue. It just shows up in your commit repository for your dev environment. In fact after I restored which has 7.28 the updates showed up immediately. These are some if the things you hit if you are using a SAAS vs something like virtual server where you are the system administrator. There are trade offs.

I would like to present on AbleOrganizer during this meetup.
Thanks, Mike! We're all set
We'll be glad to have you! Please download the Zoom video conferencing software at https://www.zoom.us and be prepared to present at 8pm Pacific / 11pm Eastern.
All, here's the info on AbleOrganizer:

The Drupal Association recently hosted a webcast where Trellon presented on AbleOrganizer:

"Using Drupal as a platform for fundraising and advocacy usually means having to integrate with several third-party systems. Beyond the expense, this creates situations that make it hard to get a complete picture of your constituency."

It's currently the number #1 post on Drupal Groups.
In the meantime, one of the topics that came up tonight is the release date of Drupal 8. Check out the post at https://groups.drupal.org/node/436638 where mparker17 says:
That's 104 release-blocking issues. Anyone who knows me knows that 104 is my lucky number, so this is kismet! Anyone who's interested in Drupal 8 should definitely follow the Drupal Core group at https://groups.drupal.org/core
