Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.
OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313
Back to OP
I've returned to OP after a long and winding route through the other CM systems. Despite its flaws and hoops, OP remains the best open-source CMS for online publishers. After discovering how to daily backup my system, I should have the Indy back up by the end of this week. With that, I want to add my name to those volunteering to build a user documentation database - I'm sure it will come in handy.

Want to migrate my existing Drupal Site to OpenPublish, but I didn´t know how can do this. I have over 50 Authors and 4.600 articles.
I found this description, but it is only for one author I think:

Can anybody help me?
Read moreBest way to create a single Person node-type that can serve as author, but also as source
In the Virtual Newsroom that we are making at MSU, we are going to start having participants create a person node for each source they talk with for a given story (even if that person is not quoted) and associate sources with stories in which they are used. In terms of OpenPublish architecture over time, should I use Author for this? Should I make a master Person node type myself? Is there a better way to deal with this that I am not considering?
Read moreLimiting Authors to creating content, but an Editor is required to publish it
Odds are this is a handled by a big, obvious and well labeled switch that I just keep missing.
I want to configure my OP2.2 site so that when someone with "author" permissions logs in, they can create content (an article) but not set its publish flag. That's something that I'd want an editor to do after giving the content a once-over and approving it.
Can anyone tell me the process to subjugate my authors this way?
Read moreInstalling fatal error
After setting up the DB the installation stopped and I got this message:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 18874368 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 5326 bytes) in /hermes/bosweb/web170/b1708/ipg.cezarmaroti/magazine/includes/database.mysql-common.inc on line 41
Any body knows why? or what can I do to fix it?
Thanks.

How can I change it?
Read moreOpenpublish, Panels 3 and DDBlock
After weeks of not being able to post to g.d.o due to mollom PMS, I need to link to an issue I have that I initially thought was due to DDBlock and panels conflicts.
Please see:
https://drupal.org/node/938158
Basically (for those who do not want to click through), I have a panel page with path of /home that I have set (or tried to) as the site homepage. I have a DDBlock in that panel and other content.
Thing is, when I set the panel page as homepage, all content vanishes. The content does not show either at frontpage or at /home path set for the panel.
Is there a way to organize the articles by "editions" and archive said editions?
I've recently discovered OP while searching for a better way to mantain the website of my weekly newspaper, and I've tried many CMS like Joomla and others, and so far only OP has almost all the features I require, except for this one, so I hope maybe someone with more experience can help me.
Read moreClustering OP on multiple servers
Has anybody tried clustering OP? I want to build a high-availability cluster with it, but I'm curious if anybody has any experience in doing this.
Basically I want to achieve the following:
* load-balancing
* high-availability in case one or more servers go down (crash, maintenance etc)
After some research I want to give the procedure described in http://www.coderintherye.com/drupal-mysql-cluster-ndbcluster-high-availa... a go, but maybe there are better alternatives?

Dear fellow OpenPublish folks,
I am using OP 2.2 and am having difficulty providing my own preprocessor variable to be used in a custom version of node-article.tpl.php that is in a sub-theme of openpublish_theme.

OpenPublish on shared hosting
Hi All,
I have managed to install and run OP 2.2 on shared hosting. Luckily, the provider has been very helpful to accommodate to my request to change the PHP setting. The entering of nodes, as well as displaying the front-page and article has been quite ok. However, I notice that it took almost 30sec to 1mins to access any of those admin related function. Is there any way I can speed up, or identify where exactly the performance issues occured?

I decided to use OpenPublish to create a website similar to chilloutpoint.com. First of all, is that a wise decision to use openpublish for this kind of site dedicated more for images than the text ?

Need some help. In fact, if someone is good with themes and wants to get in on the ground floor with a site that has the likelihood of taking off, let me know, as we have some industry people taking that gamble. Our site was a smaller hobby site that is now moving to drupal and changing our name due to popularity, so this is the problem.
If you go to the subdomain at www.angryguildleader.com/open you will see that some of the posts are longer (or at least the pictures are longer) than what is allowed in the box. Can someone please explain to me how to make the box longer horizontally?

First off, I'm sorry if this has been asked elsewhere. I've found a lot of other threads where I feel similar questions are being asked, I'm just having trouble understanding how everything fits together.
