Starting a DrupalCamp Install Profile for Drupal 6

In 2009, LA Drupal gave our DrupalCamp L.A. site code away to the world for other groups to adopt that would hopefully help spark new DrupalCamps across the world. At the time of its release we could only provide a ZIP file with the database dump and a folder of modules. Handfuls of user groups adopted our code and started to give us feedback. Up until now there has been no official documentation, instructions, or anything that would help get a new DrupalCamp site up painlessly. That is about to change.

youth events at DrupalCamp LA

DrupalCamp LA is coming up on August 7-8 and I'm wondering if anyone here is interested in youth events during the conference. For example, if there's enough interest I can help organize a youth afterparty.

What kind of for youth, by youth things can we do at DrupalCamp LA? What has worked well at other conferences? I'd love to hear from you.

Drupalchix Conversation at DrupalcampLA

Last weekend at DrupalCampLA we had a great turnout of women using Drupal, including a number of technical presentations led by women! Out of 66 sessions, 13 were presented by women (this includes Brenda Boggs' "The Doctor Is In" shift at the Drupalchix table and events such as that). 7 of those sessions were technical in nature, and while many of them were aimed at those new to Drupal, they were valuable topics such as Views, Upgrading from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6, and Site Migration.

Camp/Conference formula for Drupal

With over 500 camp attendees and 60+ session proposals, us organizers of Drupal Camp LA needed a Drupal site that was built for organizers and attendees, with lessons learned from 3+ DrupalCons & 2+ DrupalCamps. Here is our formula for our awesome camp site.

"DrupalCampLA.com was built on Drupal 6 using core & contributed modules to handle event registration, sponsorship management, featured speakers, user bio's, and session proposals. The website features an attendee driven event schedule where members propose sessions and only registered members pick which sessions they'd like to see (in the BarCamp style). Planning the schedule for the day of events has been made flexible enough to allow organizers to maintain a master schedule with ease. Not to mention that all attendees get their own schedule view with the sessions they pick."

"The web site was based on the latest Drupal 6.x release and utilized many of the current generation modules such as CCK for content customization, imagefield and imagecache to handle imaging Views & custom theming built on Zen for content presentation." (A full list of the modules used is in the case study - http://drupal.org/node/519100 )

The download link is available in the case study post - http://drupal.org/node/519100 and has been made available by LA Drupal & This By Them.

DrupalCamp LA session schedule question

I'm excited about the upcoming Drupal Camp, but found out I may only be able to attend one day instead of two.

From the website, I can't tell which day the specific sessions are scheduled for. I'm assuming that most sessions will not be available both days... or are they?

If all sessions are available for both days then my problems are solved, if not, does someone know when specific information will be available?

Thank you,
Joe
