Pasadena Drupal Meetups/Playdays - Cafe Alibi

Hi,

I understand there is a Pasadena Drupal meetup at the beginning of every month. I heard a few concerns about running out of space. I will venture out and see what I can do about my Caltech contacts. But in the meantime, I write to suggest my favorite cafe, which is a 1-minute walk away from the original Pasadena meetup location.

Anyone know how to filter by multiple tags at once?

I'm trying to create an image gallery that would do the following:

Have all photos showing. Have a list of all current tags (from just one vocabulary) in a sidebar. Allow users to checkmark the tags they want to look at. Have the gallery narrow down to just the photos with at least those tags.

What can Drupal 7 do?

I have an open source friend who is considering making the jump to Drupal. He has a couple of questions I cannot answer. I have done some of these things in D7, but have not really stressed the system. If this looks like an interesting project for a newcomer to practice on please chime in. I wish I had the time.

Page Load performance and CPU impact

Hi all,

I am wondering about the impact of gzipping CSS and JS files (after aggregation) in comparison to CPU cycles. In our Drupal site I have installed and enabled the JS and CSS aggregation modules, but they weren't utilized. So after some investigation I asked our hosts tech support and they confirmed that we're not serving resources compressed. From what I understood it was not enabled on the server side.

I was told that utilizing compression (gzip) would not provide me significant amount of savings, but impact the CPU cycles substantially.

Git Remotes

I was reading the site builders guide to Git (http://drupal.org/node/803746) and had a question about renaming remotes across all environments. The guide indicates to only rename the remote on your local development environment to point to your new repository.

When I update/commit/push to my new repository everything is fine, but when I pull to my development or staging environment and run git status, I get a notice that my branch is ahead of origin/xxxxxxx by 3 commits.

Should I rename the remotes in all environments to point to my repository as origin??

Anyone with Academic Library Access? - Looking for a journal article.

Hi Anyone,

Is there anyone with access to June 1988 Journal of Fluids Engineering? While I used to work for an academic institution, I no longer do and have no idea how to get hold of an old reprint.

I know there are some folks here who do work for colleges. If you do, and have access to a library, please get in touch.

The article I'm looking for:

R.T. Balmer. Pressure-driven Ranque-Hilsch temperature separation in liquids. Trans. ASME, J. Fluids Engineering, 110:161–164, June 1988.

Thanks!

Lee

settings.php - $conf variable overrides vs. Strongarm

Tagging on to Christefano's presentation, I was curious which takes precedence when setting a variable value: Setting the var value in settings.php or using strongarm (in a feature).

I've tested this in local build, and, as expected, the settings.php $conf array takes precedence over strongarm values.
