How to convert posts from Blog Module to "Blog" Custom Content Type?

I've heard on several occasions, including responses to my last post on How to Segment Blog Personas, the recommendation to NOT use the core blog module, but instead to use CCK and Views to replicate the blog module functionality. This makes perfect sense, and I'm doing that going forward.

But what about a site that already has a bunch of blog posts using the core blog module? Has anyone successfully converted a bunch of existing blog posts from the Blog module to custom content types? Can anyone share step-by-step instructions?

Unpublish nodes of previous academic year.

Hi
I am working on a school website, I was wondering how do I archive or unpublish all the content that was created in previous academic year and archive them separately.

Is there any way like creating a CCK field "academic year", then go to views to filter to show only "current academic year" nodes. But there are several views and therefore it doent not seem feasible to go and edit all those views and change the current academic year.

how do I do it without altering views every year?

Quiz 4.x planning

After a lively thread on separating a question bank from the quiz module, it was suggested to start a new one planning Quiz 4.x.

What would you like to see in Quiz 4.x? Here are some ideas so far:

Quiz/Question Bank module

  • Allow question items to be edited and viewed without the assumption of quiz-taking. (Currently "View" of an item sets up a quiz-taking interaction.)
  • A quiz is a list (ordered) of question items.
  • A collection is a set (unordered) of question items and/or quizzes.

Attending NECC '09 in Washington, DC, end of June?

I'll be attending the NECC conference in Washington, DC and would love to talk Drupal e-learning with anyone interested. I'll be available Sunday afternoon June 28 through noon on Wednesday July 1. Tweet me @drRod, or reply to this thread if you'd like to meet.

I'm an e-Publishing project manager at Cambridge University Press and a Drupal enthusiast. Luckily, those things have been coming together professionally for me lately. I've also spent about a decade on Chinese studies e-learning, but have focused on ESL for the past 4-5 years.

Why is Drupal good for a community college website?

Hi,
I just joined this group to try to get more information about using Drupal for our website. We are trying to decide on a CMS, and I am trying to get insights into time committment and ease of use. The site is for Arapahoe Community College near Denver, CO. We have two technical staff who will be administering the site, myself (half-time) and a full-time webmaster.

Moodle

Hi

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not.

I have recently developed an integration with Drupal and Moodle which (after an enormous amount of tears, sweat, swearing and tantrums) is working well.

Moodle has, from a student's or course teacher's perspective, very good functionality. From a developers perspective though, it's a complete piece of junk.

From my searching, it appears that Drupal currently doesn't have the modules to provide the type of functionality that Moodle has. Is this correct?

How to best show a class's registration open and close dates on a calendar?

Hi,

I'm building a site that allows people to announce various classes and events. Ideally I would like for people to be able to enter the dates that registration opens and closes for the class on the same node/add form they enter the rest of the event information, and then have something like "XYZ_Class registration opens" on the day registration opens and "XYZ_Class registration closes" on the day it closes, and have "XYZ_Class" listed on the day it happens.

using Views to construct a View?

I need some advice. I'm trying to construct a page of news articles for my school's intranet. There are going to be a few different sections:

  1. Section 1 = Featured article = big picture with a paragraph or so of text and "read more" link
  2. Section 2 = Other Featured articles = just a bulleted list of other featured stories titles that are linked to the full-text story
  3. Section 3 = smaller versions of Section 1

Drupal based music education site

Hi All,

I'm in the process of producing a web-based tutorial for music students to introduce them to computer music making. I'd be very interested to see your comments and suggestions for improvements regarding the content, presentation & whatever really.

The site is Drupal 5 using Asset for media, Lightbox, Quiz amongst others.

Please don't tell me to upgrade to Drupal 6 - it's in the pipeline but not till the next funding round.

thanks in advance

Marcus

Drupal and PowerSchool

I'm curious if anybody has managed any kind of integration between PowerSchool and Drupal, or looked into it? I would be satisfied with read-only access to PowerSchool data on class assignments that could be displayed for an organic group. Is it possible to query PowerSchool's Oracle DB directly?

Adding Education to an existing Drupal 5 site

Hi

I have an existing Drupal 5.16 site for our organisation. We have been looking at integrating Moodle to provide education services, but want to investigate using DrupalEd instead.

The reasons are:

  1. Moodle replicates a lot of the functionality of Drupal so there is a large amount of redundancy (e.g. user accounts, events);
  2. The Moodle API code is horribly written. It is fundamentally flawed, and possibly inherently insecure.

Is there a tarball package with the required modules for me to add DrupalEd to my existing site?

Thanks

Glenn
