Drupal for/in Education Interview
Are you using or developing Drupal for Educational purposes and located in the Bay Area?
I'm a Technical & Professional Writing (TPW) major at SFSU who is concentrating in instructional technologies, and I'm writing a "Drupal for Education" white paper. I'd like an in-person interview with you if you're involved with Drupal and your project is related to this category, "Drupal for Education and E-learning."
Please contact me (Kevin) if you would be interested in telling me more (in-person) about how you're using Drupal for Education.

Read moreRoadmap for making Biblio use CCK nodes
Introduction
Currently Biblio is still using custom node types. As a result it is necessary to build bridge modules to enable integration of functionality that by default already is available to CCK content types. Also since Biblio has developed it's own functionality ecosystem there are a couple of functionalities that currently only exist for Biblio nodes.

Know of any more Drupal-based educational sites out there that aren't school or university sites?
I added a few I know of to the Drupal-based Education sites page http://groups.drupal.org/node/11258
including FreshBrain, Edutopia, EdTechTalk, and EDUCAUSE. Any others?
I may be giving a workshop on using Drupal to build educational sites at the MERLOT conference this year, and would like to show off more examples: http://conference.merlot.org/2009/
Read moreCalendar viewer role?
I've had some requests from tutors to view my class's assignment calendar. I'm using Bill's model from his book and have the assignment calendar up and running.
I would like these people to be able to view the calendar and the assignments but no more. I'm not sure how to do this. I tried to create a new role (calendar viewer) and assign just those rights, but those are not options. I also looked at the View for the assignment calendar but am frankly stumped. I don't particularly want to add these people to the class, just because I'd like to have some measure of privacy for the students.

"Out of the box" Theme suggestions for district website
I am still learning Drupal but wanted to ping the education community for some suggestions on themes you would recommend for a district website. Either something you have used or saw that you thought would fit well. I don't mind having to do some customization, etc. Thanks!
Read moreCollege Tutoring Platform -- Feedback Requested
Hello,
I’m a college student working on an independent project, and I’m looking for some feedback. I’m in the process of developing a system (with Drupal) for tracking tutoring activity for our Academic Resource Center. It is designed for an ‘assigned’ tutoring workflow, where tutors are assigned to students, and they meet regularly throughout the semester. It isn’t really meant for a tutoring ‘center’, where students sign in and wait for the next available tutor.
The system will allow the ARC to reduce paper usage by:

Read moreDrupal vs. Joomla for K-12 District site
I spent several months learning Joomla and built 75% percent of our new district site using Joomla when I happened across Drupal. I was hoping to get some feedback from the community from anybody who has used Joomla and now uses Drupal for their district site and why. I am working through the O'Reilly Drupal book right now and really like Drupal but I wanted to "test drive" both CMSs in hopes of making the best decision on what system will work best for our new district site. Please let me know your thoughts if you have used both CMSs and why you chose one over the other. Thanks!!

Just wanted to reference a post I made today about the infrastructure that I've recently setup to make our Drupal "stack" into a scalable e-learning architecture that supports self-site / course creation as well as pervasive user accounts and centralized user management (I can't think of any other buzz words at the moment :) ).

We are in the process of moving our school district site as well as all of our individual school sites over to drupal. Is there a place to find a list like this or anyone have some suggestions of eduction sites using drupal?

Hi all!
I'm an Instructional Technologist with Empire State College and we're hastily moving ahead with a "pilot" of a Drupal-driven faculty/staff portal that encourages professional organic groups and college-wide knowledge sharing. We've been talking to Advomatic to address our hosting needs and we're quite impressed with their in-house production retainers. We're trying to quickly throw together a proposal for them to give them an idea of what we want.
What do we want? lol

Now that the Dojo has it's very own 100-seat-capable DimDim account for online learning and collaboration (access info here), there should be all sorts of ways we can leverage the platform (and 1700+ members) to demonstrate the various uses of Drupal in educational settings and collaborate on tools and solutions.

I'm setting up a website for my mother-in-law's education consulting business. It will basically be just an advertisement site for her business, allow people to contact her, and have a newsletter. She has little technical proficiency, but knows how to use Word which she's used to provide me a mockup for her site. I'm looking at setting up FCKeditor for her to create and edit content. Currently I've got a theme created and the framework for her node content.
Read moreReplacing OG Block with View2 by Term?
Since I just found out OG blocks have pretty inconvenient behaviors, I tried to create my own block by term with no success.
I have 3 groups this semester. I want to show only:
Group Home
Shared Notes
Create Sheared Notes
Gradebook
Group Calender
That's it. The block needs to be shown by which group the logged in user belongs to, and me, user/1 should see all 3 blocks. I think this needs to be done with argument but I just can't figure this out. I have been searching for OG specific view2 articles but to no avail so far. Any help would be appreciated. -Hiro

We are looking for the best approach to displaying calendar items in our school district site.

Just wanted to announce the availability of a Sharepoint-clone theme for Drupal, which I imagine could be quite suitable for educational websites et.c. It's available here The page itself is currently using the theme.
The same skin is ported to MediaWiki too, so you can have a completely integrated look-and-feel between Drupal and MediaWiki (+ Sharepoint of course). The MediaWiki counterpart can at the moment be seen here.
