Drupal in Education

I've had some requests from tutors to view my class's assignment calendar. I'm using Bill's model from his book and have the assignment calendar up and running.

I would like these people to be able to view the calendar and the assignments but no more. I'm not sure how to do this. I tried to create a new role (calendar viewer) and assign just those rights, but those are not options. I also looked at the View for the assignment calendar but am frankly stumped. I don't particularly want to add these people to the class, just because I'd like to have some measure of privacy for the students.

I am still learning Drupal but wanted to ping the education community for some suggestions on themes you would recommend for a district website. Either something you have used or saw that you thought would fit well. I don't mind having to do some customization, etc. Thanks!

I'm an Instructional Technologist with Empire State College and we're hastily moving ahead with a "pilot" of a Drupal-driven faculty/staff portal that encourages professional organic groups and college-wide knowledge sharing. We've been talking to Advomatic to address our hosting needs and we're quite impressed with their in-house production retainers. We're trying to quickly throw together a proposal for them to give them an idea of what we want.

What do we want? lol

I'm setting up a website for my mother-in-law's education consulting business. It will basically be just an advertisement site for her business, allow people to contact her, and have a newsletter. She has little technical proficiency, but knows how to use Word which she's used to provide me a mockup for her site. I'm looking at setting up FCKeditor for her to create and edit content. Currently I've got a theme created and the framework for her node content.

We are looking for the best approach to displaying calendar items in our school district site.

Currently we have a calendar view which displays the calendar with all calendar items included (from about 28 calendars included in all). Our content type is a Calendar Item which has a related taxonomy for the calendar category (a required single level taxonomy category only used for Calendar items)
