Top 10 Modules for educational site?

What are your votes for the 10 most useful contributed modules?

For my purposes, I'm adding classes and then having each class have a social networking/personal learning eniro/e-portfolio space.

I'm asking because I'm starting the site over from scratch, due to some unfortunate circumstances while attempting to upgrade from D5 to D6. Don't ask. :)

So I want to only install what I will use and build it slowly from the ground up. I figure it will be a good learning experience for me and also help to ensure that we don't experience "module bloat".

An old Tech Learning Article

Here's an older post I sent in detailing our use of OG in a middle school last year to Tech Learning. I'm working in a different district now and want to replicate the experience on a broader scale with 4 schools. I'm in the process of getting design help, moving to a hosted environment and re-learning some of the OG stuff I learned last year. Much of our success was predicated on Bill's work with his DrupalEd distro. I've had a number of other schools and teacher ask if it was hard to do after seeing how responsive and flexible Drupal can be.

Drupal Classes or Courses at 3rd level/Uni/College, online or face to face?

Does anyone know of academic institutions offering classes or courses which cover Drupal?

Both face to face and/or online?

NB: Not courses using Drupal as a medium, rather: Drupal as the subject matter.

I would love to hear from lecturers who are planning courses, or who have taught Drupal in their courses. I would like to see examples, how they fit in to the existing academic programmes in their institutions, how they promote it, and what the outcomes have been.

Thank you!

Interesting post on teaching with Drupal

Hello, all,

I came across this post today: http://meredith.wolfwater.com/wordpress/2008/12/11/validation-of-my-crac...

It has a great quote from a student that highlights the strength of Drupal when used as a teaching tool:

I’ve been using Drupal for my classes as its flexibility supports my more constructivist approach to teaching. As one of my students wrote:

Best solution for assignment calendar?

If I just want to post daily/weekly assignments that are viewable daily/weekly/monthly, what would be my best solution? I'm using OG, and I read somewhere that the calendar module doesn't work well with OG. Is that true?

I'm looking for something really simple to manage on my end, and use on the student end.

PLE's, PLN's in Drupal?

Has anyone had any experience with setting up/using Drupal as a Personal Learning Environment or Personal Learning Network?

I'm looking at experimenting with a 10th grade class.

Also, if you know of any Best of Class PLE's you can point me to, that would be great.

TIA,
Bob

Internet Explorer Slow Loading of Pages

I'm working to roll out some new district and building sites using zen theme as a base and am finding that the Internet Explorer pages are taking 5-7 seconds to load while firefox loads the pages almost instantly. Any ideas on what I might have done wrong in theming the site ( http://www.zps.org )?

So far I have tried turning off modules, using YSlow, using online page analysis tools, and changing out graphics. It feels like I may have some CSS issue...just not sure.

Thanks to anyone who might be willing to take a quick look and point me in some direction.

Outline Designer for Drupal 6!!!!

I've been working on a port of the Outline Designer module to Drupal 6 and it's almost ready for release. I've got a demo up of the current progress / direction that the project is taking but it's drastically changed since the Drupal 5 version; both architecturally and in terms of usability. It now piggy-backs functionality of the Ajax, Book, and Thickbox modules. You can check out the demo / screencast below. Feedback is muuuuuch appriciated as this module is still geared towards making Drupal more usable for the education crowd.

Drupal School building

I am trying to structure Drupal as a virtual School building.

A school building has corridors. Within these corridors there are a number of class rooms. There are several corridors within a school building. The corridor is basically a container for the rooms.

OG seems the obvious choice for the rooms. Any ideas how I can have a corridor-room structure while using OG

SCORM

Hello,

Great work on the drupal ed distro and i'm looking forward to reading the new book.

I'm wondering if you have any plans to view SCORM compliant files within drupal.

There's been some developments with the Drupal Scorm Project: http://groups.drupal.org/scorm

Currently this module displays content but it doesn't record any user data (such as how far a user is through the lesson).

Multisite questions

Hi all,

I'm working towards moving our university site (the Vancouver branch of Washington State University) over to drupal. Right now, after months of trial and error on a development server, I'm close to getting started on what will be our new web server, with plans to build up sections of the site department by department. So here's my question:

Biblio records, an important project for Education

There are certain Modules in Drupal (D6.6) which are of great value for Education related web sites. One of these Modules is "BIBLIOGRAPHIC MODULE"

http://drupal.org/project/biblio

Which is used for keeping Bibliographic records. It needs updates. The person which maintain this project has no time to do this. I think the Education group should see the value of this module and take over maintenance.
