Converting a taxonomy to a group?

I've just installed the Organic Groups module to our site at http://opensourceschools.org.uk (well, to the dev. copy at the moment...) and would love to use this to provide tailored content to school leaders, teachers, techies etc who form distinct segments of our growing community. Hitherto, I've used a taxonomy to tag content for these groups - is there any way to move the tagged content into the new groups automatically, or do I have to work my way through the archive?

Drupal Design Camp Boston on June 13-14, 2009

Start:
2009-06-13 (All day) - 2009-06-14 (All day) America/New_York
Event type:

Drupal Design Camp Boston is a free, two-day Drupal conference on June 13-14, 2009, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is being organized by members of the Boston Drupal group as part of the growing Design 4 Drupal initiative that launched when designers and themers took DrupalCon DC by storm this past March.

This camp also coincides with the drupal.org redesign sprint at the MIT Media Lab on Friday, June 12. The sprint picks up where the San Francisco redesign sprint left off and participants at the Boston sprint will be learning how to contribute to theming drupal.org as well as implement the redesign.

Any suggestions for using Drupal to do this?

Hi, this is just a question seeking for suggestions. For classroom teaching receiving students' submission on an essay assignment, grading the essay with comments, and then returning the comments back to students is something very time consuming. I am thinking to ask students to post their essays as a (book page, story, blog...?) to course Drupal site, and I will use Adding Comment to write feedback so that there will be no email, download, attach, etc tasks.

Drupal for a School Boards Association? Need to set access levels.

I've been given the task of re-doing a state school board association website entirely. Right now it's on Typo3, which has proven too difficult of a learning curve for those involved, and it's too difficult to make it "pretty." For a slew of other reasons, I'm trying to sell the switch to Drupal.

I'm 90% sure I want Drupal. Especially over Joomla because of SEO and the ability to control what different viewers can access.

I have different types of viewers:
*The average School Board Member
*Members who have paid to have access to Policy information

Teaching the meaning of Social Networking

I was(am) working on a drupal based site http://iputech.com Its a student network site where we the college students can share knoweldge, resources, find likely minded people for our projects. This is social networking among college students.

However in my failed attempt to make the university understand the meaning and importance of "social networking" all my hope to get support from them for the site seems diminished.

I am still a kid and can't really manupilate people(specially old people with their own firm believes and unchangable nature)

single sign-on

I'm trying to find reference and a solution to a single sign-on approach. We have a mixed server environment with the following;
* IIS .net application
* another IIS .net application
* an apache java application
* a moodle application
* a drupal application
* a WPMU instance
* possibly a MediaWiki instance
* a hosted video streaming application
I'd like to work toward creating a single sign-on across all these apps. What options are available to me?
Sincerely, Peter

Testing, examinations and student interaction.

Hi All;

I have been trying to setup a "learning section" for a website dedicated to the education if professional oncologists and have been using Drupal with fairly good results, however, I have a problem when it comes to the testing, scoring, examinations and general user interaction/contributions. There appears to be nothing available that will handle quizzes, exams etc. other than the 'Quiz' module [which works very nicely - for what it does].

Developing a simple enrollment tool, module suggestion

Hi all,

Good day!!

I'm planning to develop a tool for school's office, lets say an enrollment system.. just a simple structure anyway where you keep records of students (using CCK+views), view records, and generate payments per quarter, and generate reports. also sorting them by level with taxonomy.. what confuses me is i want a student node (permanent one) in which it has a separate payment node which keeps updating the balance of payment in every quarter and also keeping the history of the transaction.. is there a module for it? any suggestions can help a lot... thanks so much..

Best process for designing new site - local install on laptop or server?

Hi everybody,

I wanted to ping the group regarding "best practice" or advice on building a new site that will replace our current K12 District site. Do you think it is best to build it local on say a laptop using wampserver and then migrate it over to a host and how hard is this? Or....install it on a spare server I have in our server room using a temp domain name and then migrate it over to a host (again how difficult is the migration process). Looking for advice from all of you who I am sure have done this many times or at least once and what strategy you recommend. Thanks!!

How about teaching Drupal/OS in the classroom?

Hey folks, this past Friday I gave a presentation to a high school class about open source. It was just generically explaining what it is and why they might want to check it out. At the end I offered to come back and do more technical sessions on actually using Drupal. This is something I've been wanting to do for a while and I just happened into a lucky circumstance to be presented with the opportunity.

Taxonomy and permissions - best approach?

I am new to Drupal and trying to work out the best way to approach managing content and contributors for a public facing school website:

  • I want to categorize content into groups like "PTO", "Athletics", "Administration"
  • It seems like taxonomy is the right way to do this.
  • Then I can structure my site navigation through this taxonomy
  • I want to give individual users permission to create nodes tagged with particular terms. I.e. the PTO content maintainer would be required to create nodes with the "PTO" term

District wide site

I am currently creating a web page for a schools district webpage. I have set up a couple of drupal sites now and am curious about how to set this one up. I want to create basically 4 sites on one domain. The main page would be the district web home page. The other 3 schools need there own way of content. For example, I need to make a multi-selectable event calendar that posts to the district and the elementry. I need to know if I should use categories and taxonomy or do I need to make multisite type configuration.

Creating a discipline module

I have been working for a day now on a discipline module for Drupal. Basically it allows an administrator to enter demeritis/merits to certain users (student role). I just wanted to get some of your input about it. I started working on it because I had noticed that it had been proposed along with the gradebook module and as far as I can tell, this has not yet been developed. If this has been developed please steer me in the right direction to find the module.

Presenter pool

There is an interesting write-up about remote presentations on the Open Media g.d.o. made by Kevin (kreynen@drupal.org). From their experiences it seems like it should be feasible to make a habit out of remote Drupal presentations.
