Welcome to the Drupal Event Organization group. Here we share meetup, camp, regional conference, and international conference organization tips and tricks. The event calendar should be used to announce events, not this group. Feel free to share your tips about successful events and plans, find partners to organize meetups.

Hello,
Attached is a Drupal Summit Planning Guide, which processes how Mediacurrent and the local Drupal community organized the inaugural 2011 Atlanta Drupal Business Summit. The document is intended to help other organizers throughout the world plan a similar event - included in the guide is our budget, checklists, and other lessons learned.
We would welcome your feedback.

So, we have a lot of Drupal Camps going on in the Midwest this year. This is a GREAT thing! It means the local communities are getting strong enough to start hosting these camps. I know this year our camp could have been a lot larger, our venue this year was big enough to handle something MUCH larger, but as I'm sure a number of others out there are experiencing some balance of sponsors, speakers, and attendees that may or may not already be committed to another Drupal Camp.

This event has passed. See http://groups.drupal.org/node/275138 for the next job fair on January 28, 2012.
Do you represent a company or organization that's looking for Drupal talent? Are you a freelancer or service provider who's looking for Drupal work?
Come and make new friends and turn new connections into long-term relationships at the next Downtown Drupal job fair on November 15, 2011. This event is being hosted by Droplabs, a Drupal event and coworking space in Downtown Los Angeles, the venue of the successful Downtown Drupal job fair in June, 2011.
Light food and drinks are being provided by Chimney Coffee House, our favorite neighborhood cafe, bakery, sandwich and dessert boutique. Chimney is also the location of the local branch of Stanford's machine learning class.
Droplabs is also hosting the popular Downtown LA Drupal meetup the same evening at 7:30pm. If you're looking for Drupal talent and are interested in reaching as many up-and-coming Drupal developers, designers, themers and architects as possible, this month's meetup at Droplabs is a great place to be.
If you are looking for Drupal work, you are welcome to sign up by clicking the Sign up button below. This is optional but it will confirm you to attend and there is nothing else to do other than arriving at the event at 4pm. An automatic email reminder will be sent to you 1 day before the event.
If you're an employer or a representative of a company or organization, contact us at jobs-nov15jobfair@droplabs.net or http://droplabs.net/contact and we'll follow up with you about sponsorship opportunities.

Join members of the Los Angeles Drupal user group in the Drupal community's second code sprint for updating COD (Conference Organizing Distribution) to Drupal 7. This is a joint event produced by LA Drupal's Pro Drupal 7 Development book study group and Droplabs, a Drupal coworking / hackerspace in Downtown Los Angeles.
Join us in person or online!
During the code sprint, we'll be gathered in the #drupal-cod IRC channel and all are welcome to join us. The event organizers and attendees will also be checking Twitter for feedback and questions that mention @UseCOD or use the #CODD7 hashtag.
About COD, the Conference Organizing Distribution
COD is used for building conference and event websites. It's built on Drupal, the highly-regarded open-source web framework and content management system, and each component is independent of each other. This means you can disable the features you don't need, whether it's selling tickets or listing sponsors or allowing session voting.
Just like Drupal, COD is free and can be used by anyone. There is a very long list of sites that use COD, from the DrupalCon Chicago and DrupalCon London conferences to RIACon, Brisbane Innovation Camp, the Meego Conference, the Bay Area Drupal Camp, and our own Drupal Design Camp LA.
Here are just some of the great features in COD:
- Session submission, voting and moderation
- Session schedule grid
- Personalized attendee schedules
- Easy event registration and attendee management
- Community features (forums, friending, etc.)
- Easy sponsors management
We're already using COD on Drupal 6 for the Drupal Design Camp LA 2011 website and we plan to use COD on Drupal 7 for Drupal Design Camp LA 2012. COD is not yet ready for this but we're not afraid of rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty.
Help us improve COD and you'll also be helping numerous Drupal contrib projects, including Location, Signup and Commerce, as well as other organizations and conferences, such as DrupalCon, SCALE 10x and DrupalCamps around the world including our own Drupal Design Camp LA.
COD on Drupal 7 Battleplans
- Find a venue (done! we're meeting at Droplabs)
- Gather interest and sponsorships
- Set up a hosting environment for group collaboration
- Add contributors to our version control system
- Download COD, set up the team with tools, including Quickstart
- Get up to speed on work that has already been done:
- San Diego COD sprint on May 7, 2011
- Notes on Lullabot's Etherpad instance at http://lullapad.com/h12fYizetk
- Upgrading COD to Drupal 7: Sprint 1 - San Diego
- COD roadmap
- Porting COD to Drupal 7
- COD on Drupal 7 How-to
- Debate Commerce vs. Ubercart 3 (just kidding: the COD roadmap lists Commerce)
- Code! Code! Code!
- Update the COD issue queue with current progress
- Write a summary for Planet Drupal to thank our sponsors and contributors, aid any future CODD7 sprints, etc.
Pre-sprint discussion and planning
We've already begun discussing and planning several parts of the code sprint during the first 15 minutes of each Pro Drupal 7 Development book study group meeting. To join the conversation, click the Signup button below, post a comment below, contact any of the event organizers at the top of this page or just drop by the Pro Drupal 7 Development study group some Monday night.
The attendance of the book study group is already capped for this book group cycle but you're more than welcome to drop by, talk with us and work on your projects at Droplabs alongside other Drupaleros.

Read moreDrupal products summit
I'm considering organizing a Drupal products summit some time this fall. The main purpose of the meeting would be to create a knowledge sharing platform for Drupal shops/individuals that are working on a product: anything built with Drupal that has a repeatable business model (can be specialized services for Drupal shops, distributions, applications, websites built with Drupal that target a certain market segment).
The main practical outcomes I hope to achieve with this meeting are:
- The creation of a workgroup that will build an ethical Drupal Application Store
- Increase of knowledge about lean startup methodologies in the Drupal community
- Strengthening the network of Drupal product companies and the creation of a mutual support community
Drupalcamp Atlanta 2011
In case you missed any earlier announcements, the Drupalcamp Atlanta 2011 website is live (http://drupalcampatlanta.com/)! Registration and session submissions are now open and well underway. There are sponsorship opportunities still available.

I would highly encourage everyone to sign-up as soon as possible - we have to cap attendance due to venue constraints, and the previous two years have sold out weeks in advance.

Detailed Descriptions of Meetups
When editing and adding meetups below, be as descriptive as you'd like. It may be helpful to businesses and traveling community members for them to have as much information as possible.
Frontend Drupal / Design 4 Drupal
The Frontend Drupal / Design 4 Drupal meetups are on the 4th Tuesday and are usually in Culver City, CA. They focus on design, theming, usability, typography and other frontend-related topics.
With enough notice, Downtown Los Angeles Drupal organizers can produce special events at Droplabs on the 4th Wednesday in Downtown Los Angeles.
Droplabs already hosts several Drupal meetups each month, including the High Performance Drupal and general Downtown Los Angeles Drupal meetups. These meetups have had attendance of between 20-65 attendees.
The San Gabriel Valley Drupal meetups are on the 4th Thursday in San Gabriel Valley (usually Pasadena, CA). They have a general focus and have an attendance of between 15-30 attendees.
The San Diego Drupal Users Group meetups are on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. We have a mixed structure with some planned content and some ad-hoc content, and we usually have a small social meetup at the Prado down the street afterwards.
The San Diego North County DUG meetups are on the 4th Thursday of every month in Carlsbad, CA at the NAMM headquarters in the Museum Of Making Music. This meetup averages about 10-15 users, most of which are seasoned Drupalers. Content is purely ad-hoc, and you may be asked to talk about what you've been doing recently.

I would like to formally request an investigation into two members of the Drupal Association board who I believe have acted in a Conflicts-of-Interest with regards to DrupalCon Chicago. In addition I formally request the investigation of one member of the Drupal Association general assembly for the same.
I believe that these members of the Board and General Assembly have behaved in ways that not only run counter to basic morals of our community, but I believe that they have also potentially broken nonprofit tax law and have put the tax exempt status of the DA's 501(c)3 at risk.

Drupal Community Cultivation Grants
The Drupal Association recently announced Drupal Community Cultivation Grants - a new program designed to provide financial support to Drupal event organizers.
While full details are available at the link above, I wanted to make sure this group knew about the program - please spread the word to aspiring event organizers. Raising the initial funds can often be a large hurdle - this program aims to lower the barrier of entry for organizers.

DrupalCamp and Event Organizing Guide - needs input
The first draft of version 2 of the DrupalCamp and Event Organizers Guide has recently been completed. Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far, but I'd like to encourage a little more participation at this point in order to add additional examples and ideas to future Drupal event organizers.
Specifically, I'd love for other camp and event organizers to add links to the document in various places. For example, there's a section for adding links to post-camp wrap-ups and case studies. There are a number of places within the document where additional links and information would be useful.
