The group to discuss administering the groups.drupal.org web site.
We also have an issue queue for the groupsorg.module that runs on this site for things that need code changes.
Maintainer advice:
How does breaking off into metros affect the SoCal Group?
Hey y'all -
Really glad to see that LA now has it's own group. I was involved in the tail end of the discussion (w/ jpklein), and I'm unsure if the point that mikey_p brought up was talked about. Seems to almost make sense. If we take out all the LA and SD people (from the SoCal Group) who/what are we left with? Not sure if and/or what the proper procedures/protocol are for these types of things....
Read moreIs there a way to see all the taxo terms of a group?
I've been trying to find a way to coax a listing of all taxonomy terms for g.d.o groups. Thus far, it has been in vain. Do any of you know how this might be achieved without writing a module, or patching core? The top-10 list at the right side of a group is just not enough info for a group admin to keep things streamlined and organized.
Ideas? Sogg-gestions?

Might this be a help? http://drupal.org/node/16489

I'm not sure this is related to merlinofchaos' post, but I've just been surfing around and become unsubscribed from two of my four groups. The one I'm missing the most is drupal-dojo. I can't remember what the other one was.
As of now, the only two groups that are showing are CCK and Maintenance. FYI.

I upgraded modr8 and OG to latest DRUPAL-5 versions. Please post any anomolies here. Mostly minor bug fixes.

I switched the RSS so the whole body is sent, instead of just teaser. Why not?
There is still some problem with RSS and authentication but I have not had a chance to fix it. I am tested to ditch the whole securesite http auth thing in favor of token authentication which gives secret urls to each user. Google calendar does this, for example.
Read moreIn group full text search is now live
In the group details block in upper right, there is now a search box which initiates a full text search of content within the group. this is a nice feature, and a long time coming. i am using the views_search filter in Views along with og specific argument to achieve this. og now comes with this feature in 5.x version.
Read morepatch for Modr8
though it looks like mostly just Moshe and I are moderating groups, some additional minor UI improvements for Modr8 are here in patch form and I'd appreciate any testing: http://drupal.org/node/115687
Read moreTOC module installed
I made a couple of minor changes to TOC module and installed it on this site. This module automatically injects a table of contents block into your node when you author using properly section your post using header tags (i.e. h3, h4, etc). For an example, see the about page. This module works nicely with markdown syntax, which makes it easy to author structured documents like this.

Users with administer nodes permissions will notice new published', 'promoted' ,'sticky' links under each node. these come from fasttoggle module, by kkaefer. with a single click, we can now promote stuff to home page. enjoy. read more about fasttogle at http://drupal.org/project/fasttoggle

I installed the freelinking module which lets users link to other pages that might or might not exist. I disabled the CamelCase feature of that module so you have to use the double brackets. See the help underneath input formats in order to learn more about the syntax.
Please keep you eyes open for formatting/filtering irregularities.

This morning I came across a new spammer on g.d.o who had posted 1 story and 2 comments, all 3 of which have NOTHING to do with Drupal and are OBVIOUSLY SPAM. All 3 advertise some element of "Get Paid for your routine Surfing".

Read moreDiff module installed, and Activity report created
I have added two nice features that are available only to editors. They are
- diffs of node content. a nice companion to wikipages especially. a new diff tab shows up on node views if there are revisions and if you have permission.
- An Activity report which helps prune inactive groups.
Welcome, wiki pages

As an experiment, I have created a new content type called 'wiki page' and given everyone the permission to edit them. This post is an example of one. Feel free to edit it, within reason. Your edits don't generate email notifications but might generate items in rss feeds depending on reader preferences.
Read moreHow to prune overlapping groups
Here is the process I am using when I see groups whose missions overlap too much:
- send an email to all group members using the Email tab. some example text:
As part of standard pruning, this group is closing. Please continue the conversation in the more active High Performance group - http://groups.drupal.org/high-performance. All posts will be moved there. Please adjust your notifications/feed subscriptions accordingly.
- delete the less active group, and choose the option to move content to the target group. Go slowly here, and get it right.
Shall We Merge? . . .
We now have two groups that seem to be focusing on very similar aspects. I don't think we actually need both. I think we can combine the two and morph the resulting one to fit the needs of all subscribers. Comments?

I am getting very close to satisfied with the Drupal 5 version of this site. Folks are welcome to browse a recent snapshot at http://groupsbeta.drupal.org. Feel free to post and delete content. No emails will be generated.
Please post your bug reports in this thread. There are a couple of known minor glitches, like authenticated rss feeds, missing rss icons, and missing help text at top pf a few pages. ignup module has been dropped for now since it doesn't have a D5 branch.
One nice benefit for editors is that you may now post into any group without being a subscriber there.

the sort order is messed up. You would expect the node for the january DUG to be at the top, but it is preceded by old nodes. is this because the old nodes have had more recent comments? While i could see a use for that, i think that for dugs having a "most recent at top" would be best.
Also wondering about the site wide posts (like the "bug down" post being sticky at top? how long does that last? If you have a smaller browser window and you come look at the Seattle DUG page you would think that there have been no recent posts that are
