We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

The group to discuss administering the groups.drupal.org web site.

We also have an issue queue for the groupsorg.module that runs on this site for things that need code changes.

This 'robinfly' user might be a spammer in disguise

There's a new, five-day-old user named 'robinfly' on the g.d.o. site(s) that appears to be making one me-too post every day that doesn't really do anything for any group, except provide a set of links to non-drupal sites in "her" sig.

I deleted her saved signature, and all the sigs she's posted so far. Let's see what "she" does next. If we get an email, fine. If it's really a spammer, they'll realize we're onto them and hopefully give up.

Somebody remind me to check this situation again in a few days and follow up with robinfly's spammy ways? Thanks.

Ames, New Delhi, and Drupalcon Toronto Groups

I contacted managers of Ames, Iowa, New Delhi, India & DrupalCon Toronto about merging with the larger counterparts (Iowa, India and Toronto, respectively). I've received responses from a few that have stated they are seeing if they can merge with the larger groups if not they will come back and request the group.

So at this point, can we leave these in moderation until they decide that they really do need their own group. Just for the record, I'm not opposed to any of these people having their own group but want them to explore merging with the larger group.

Spam flagging

Have you all (the GDO maintainers) considered implementing a spam flagging feature? My thinking is that average users could flag posts/comments they consider to be spam, which would then go into an incident queue where maintainers can agree and remove post or disagree and let it be.

E.g., I think this is spam http://groups.drupal.org/node/7732#comment-38002

Spam filter on g.d.o is resulting in error messages

Another g.d.o member tried posting updates to Contributed modules status - version 6.x and, when he encountered some spam filter, was not able to post his updates. He stated that he tried for over an hour.

He emailed me for help, I attempted posting the updates, and was unable to do so because of the following error message:

public/private setting bug?

This issue has been fixed for me once (by webchick), but as soon as I edited the node, it reverted to the old behavior, and is once again locked on private. The problem is that the checkbox to make the post public is disabled at the html level. Even if I set it to checked using the web developer add on, it doesn't change.

node: http://groups.drupal.org/node/11017

Thanks.

Organic groups updated and job posts no longer issue notification emails

i have upgraded OG today. There were some major under the hood changes, so please watch out for bugs.

As part of the new features, I disabled email notifications for job posts. This is based on feedback that they were "taking over my group.". If a group admin wants to deemphasize them in the web presentation, she may do so using the new group Pages feature. I will be adding the ability for a group admin to remove arbitrary content types from the list of 'Create' links in the group block. That would effectively remove 'job' or other content types from the group.

Does OG_Panel break group RSS subscriptions?

I haven't researched this thoroughly, but it seems that implementing Panel Pages may break (or at least change) their pre-existing RSS subscriptions. I've recently noticed that four of my G.D.O. subscriptions are broken, right about the time that each of them implemented Panel Pages -- Alumni, Churches, Drupal Dojo and Drupal in Education (I implemented three of the four.

Is search within groups working?

Hello, all,

I've spent nearly an hour googling and looking through various threads, and I feel like I'm missing something obvious here --

But, is search within groups working?

For example, when I search within the Drupal in Education group for the word "trombone" I get a lot of false hits -- bug in views

On a test site, I have had similarly inaccurate results when creating searches within views and exposing the Search: Index filter --

Wrong links under "Recent" tab

I hope this is the right place to post.

...prefixing the feed URL like so: [username]:[password]@[url] (omit the brackets). Note that you will want to keep your subscription private if you use web based reader like Bloglines or My Yahoo.

The Bloglines and My Yahoo links are not working (they appear as links but are not clickable).

groups.drupal.org gives UI power to group admins with Pages

Drupal Dojo

groups.drupal.org now features Pages, a major new feature added this week. Group admins now have much more control over the presentation of their group’s content. You may see this feature in action by clicking on the tabs in the redesigned Drupal Dojo group, or Los Angeles or SoC 2008. To learn how this customization was achieved, watch this screencast (blip.tv) by Josh Koenig.

Group admins may add as many custom Pages as they desire to their group. The admin may choose her own page layout, and may place whatever content she wishes into each region of the page. If this sounds like Panels module to you, then pat yourself on the back. This feature is a happy integration between Organic Groups module and the Panels module.

Group admins are encouraged to build out their groups using Pages (see screencast), and report bugs or feature requests in the groups.drupal.org group.

Many thanks to Earl Miles for Panels and Views, and to Josh Koenig for the screencast, and to the Post Carbon Institute for funding og_panels module.

Can we add verbiage to the "add job" rules?

This morning, a company looking to hire a Drupal developer posted to two groups, including the Contributed Module Status group that I manage.

Although I have VERY CLEAR language in the group's description that job postings are NOT allowed per the following...

(NOTE: This group is NOT for job postings and any posted here will be removed. It is suggested that you place your job postings in the Consulting and Business group. Repeat: jobs posted here will be removed.)

...job posters often do not visit each group when posting via the Submit Job form to see if any group they're posting to has special rules on what to post and what not to post. Hence, they post job forms to groups they shouldn't be posting, as in the case of the Contributed Module Status group, a group with over 1600 subscribers. The result is that I email the job posters on average about once a week to remove their job form. I email them because I don't want to just remove their job form from my group because then they won't learn and I don't want to just delete their job form either because I think that would be rude.

Non-Drupal related groups being submitted

Although I highly support the entrepreneurial spirit, I'm very much against groups.drupal.org becoming saturated with groups that really aren't about discussing Drupal and instead are self-serving.

Here are two examples I came across in the moderation queue this morning and they appear to have little, if anything, to do with Drupal:
http://groups.drupal.org/m-s-public-relations
http://groups.drupal.org/kolb-net-works

Would it make sense to spell out in clearer language that g.d.o is not for an individual, a business, the government, a non-profit, etc., to set up a group whose focus isn't Drupal?

The create a group link contains the following but perhaps it's not clear or specific enough?

The focus of your group should be drupal related discussion. We don't host groups that discuss other topics like politics and fundraising. Drupal can be popular for powering sites like those, but thats beside the point. We discuss Drupal here, exclusively.

And if the Drupal Association wants to help generate funds by allowing advertising in a directory to which we can redirect those folks who want to advertise, I would support that. I just don't want a bunch of clutter here on g.d.o. by folks who are really doing nothing more than advertising.

A new spam module installed

I've installed a new spam module and removed CAPTCHA.module. The new module analyzes the contents of comments and node submissions and assigns a spam score. If the module is unsure, the user may see a CAPTCHA. But usually, the module just allows the right stuff proceed without challenge.

Please let me know if you see spam or if you hear of authors getting stopped incorrectly.

Update: The new spam module is in alpha testing right now, and I'm not able to discuss its particulars.

Non Drupal Jobs?

This post wasn't clear so I mailed the guy to ask if it had any Drupal work in the job. He said no, that it doesn't. On the add job page it just says "thanks for your interest in supporting the drupal open source movement by hiring drupal developers" which kind of hints that these should be Drupal jobs, but doesn't state it outright (also s/drupal/Drupal).
