The web presence of SpareChangeNews.Net remains, unfortunately, small at best. As a primarily print publication, we've had a hard time getting our writers and editors on board with the website, let alone our readers.

Trying to migrate a development site to a live site

I'm trying to move my development site to a live site and am following Nicole Bluto's Drupal LA seminar notes on "Migrating a Site from Stage to Live".

I've exported my databased using the Backup and Migrate module.
I created a fresh drupal install on the live site.
I've copied my "sites" folder from the development site into the live site.

At this point she says to create a new database... can I not just import my exported database into the fresh install?

Also, she says to alter the settings.php file at line #92

$db_url='mysql://username:password@localhost/databasename';

Revisions while parent is still 'live'

I've been looking at the Workflow module and like what I see.

However, I can imagine the following scenario:

  • Item goes through normal workflow (author -> editor -> published).
  • Item needs revision.

OK, now I have a problem. The item is live, perhaps in a featured position on the site, yet it needs to be updated, and the update needs to go through an editorial review process.

How do I do that, without having to create a new node? Has anybody crossed this bridge?

Video ad serving

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to handle video ad serving (i.e. adding things like pre-, mid- and postrolls ads into your videos)?

And, specifically, has anybody integrated the Kaltura Video Module for Drupal (http://corp.kaltura.com/) to handle this kind of thing?

Alternatley has anybody decided that using a third-party like Brightcove (http://www.brightcove.com) or Videoplaza (http://www.videoplaza.com) the best way to go for video ad serving?

Thx,

Geoff

Trouble finding format to use in Views for video gallery

I'm sure this must be a real simple issue, but for some reason I can't seem to figure it out.

I'm trying to create a simple video gallery using views. I'm using cck, image cache, filefield and the JQ media module to upload video and use it in my video gallery.

When I add my content video_field to field options and proceed to choose a format, all the image cache formats show up, but nothing for video content. When I go to the page with the video gallery view, no videos appear because I can't set a video "format". In my created content, my video shows up, but not in the view.

Three More Newspapers Migrating to Drupal

Hi all,

I'm leading the conversion of three NC newspapers to Drupal 6, the first of which is The Daily Reflector. With our first big Drupal 5 site completed (to be upgraded to D6 soon) and many lessons learned, I figured it was time to start contributing back in the form of writeups and possible modules with this project.

Categories for Newspapers

As I said earlier, we have a starting newspaper online.
I was wondering if anyone would share how they do their categories.

Here is how I did ours:

I chose a normal vocab, listed some terms and made the urls to show "section".

Is this the best way to do it? Any tips would be great.

The simplest way to create rollover image menus in Drupal?

I am trying to find the simplest way to create menus using images that rollover.

I came across the imagemenu module which seems to be for that purpose, but get stuck in the process. The module asks for me to designate a "path" for the files (both original image and rollover), but everything I try does not seem to work. I have it pointing to the file folder set up under "Site Configuration/File system" and I also attempted to put in a URL directly to the file (http://www.....).

If someone is familiar with imagemenu and if that solution would work for me, please help : )

Case Study: Fight Back! Newspaper Re-Launched Using Drupal

Only local images are allowed.Fight Back! is a grassroots newspaper that exists to build the people's struggle and “provides coverage and analysis of some of the key battles facing working and low-income people”. The newspaper was founded in 1999 by a core of activists who wanted an independent publication to help with their organizing efforts for social justice, peace, and equality. Mass schedule stage change

I am working on designing a Drupal site with the Workflow module for a college newspaper that is produced weekly...

We have a workflow set up such that an article is uploaded, section edited, copy edited, and then scheduled for publication the following day.

Is there a way to mass schedule every node that is in the "copy edited" to change to the "published" stage at a specific time?

Thanks!

Centralizing the workflow

I'm in the process of planning a centralization of our workflow, so that a single story gets purposed multiple ways, and I was hoping to get some discussion going on this topic, perhaps sharing some brain cells and previous experiences with others on the group.

First, the idea: Currently we are copying and pasting from our news system (NewsEditPro) or InDesign (depending on which editor is working that day) into the Drupal system. It's not very effective obviously, but it's what we were forced to do for years using TownNews, and we're just now beginning to expand our sites.

How to make Edition go LIVE on a particular hour?

Hi,

I'm setting up a newspaper site with the help of CCK node-reference, panels, views etc.

I have 2 basic content types: Story and Edition.

This daily newspaper is publishing 1 Edition each day. "Edition" is a content type consisting of many node-references containing Stories.

The basic content type is the Story. Roughly 20-30 are being submitted by columnists and journalists, but they must not be visible or searchable until the next day when the Edition goes live.

I need your help in sorting out how to:
