Hey all,

I have talked to a few of you about this, but I want to put this out there officially. Here is a quick rundown of what I have in mind.

We in the New York community I feel have done a good job of getting people started with Drupal, through Intro to Drupal, Drupal Camps, Playdays, Happy Hours and Meetups. These are all great events and serve a really great purpose, I think that there is also another type of event that we could be hosting, a long form presentation that we can start to tackle "Best / Better" Practices, say an hour to an hour 40 mins for a presentation with a 20 min Question & Answer, that would be recorded to be released for those not in attendance to watch and learn from (I will discuss with the Drupal Dojo folks to see if they would like to associate these with the Dojo).

I think that this will do 2 things:

1.) Try to assist Drupal Community members move up the learning curve, and hear from professionals
2.) Shine a spotlight on the New York City community members, to show off their skills to the community at large.

There are a few people that have already agreed to do these lectures, I will pick on one of them here :)

Sam Tresler would be doing a lecture on everything from when http://mysite.com is typed and enter hit, that your site loads in the browser.

So I am very excited to try to get this off the ground, I need to find a location (I have thought about maybe the NewWorkCity or another Co-working location, or a College location would be great) that can house say 30-40 people, that has a projector / podium. Also someone that can record and edit them.

Hopefully this will spark conversation and we can make this happen. Please comment here and maybe we can add it to the Meetup schedule as a BoF :)

Actually I need to talk to you about a college that we have in common (and whose library site was redesigned in Drupal)

Actually, we are currently working with a group over there and putting together a presentation for the provost. The fact that the library just migrated to Drupal is possibly a good omen. Keep you posted.

Sounds awesome Robbie!

I had interaction with New Work City back during the first weeks after the Haiti Crisis, and I agree that seems like a good possible venue, though I'm not sure if their conference room holds enough people? If I remember correctly, you could only get about 12 people in there at a time, in chairs. Maybe they've moved to a bigger space since I was there last?

Hey Kelly thanks for the comment, I was thinking the area to the left after you come in, I went to a meetup there having to do with Tech4Good and we had about 30-40 chairs in that area with a projector.

I think this makes a lot of sense, on multiple levels.
As I've mentioned on the camp list, and to Robbie, I will check on getting wireless audio equipment via sponsor, and can help set that sort of stuff up. I'll see what I can do about video gear as well, but I have less contacts.

There should be a lot of options for space, given the low demands. I'll check with a few theaters in the east village that I know, but there's also 3rd ward, various skill-share group spaces, Market Hotel style venues, etc..

Great Idea Robbie

Robbie this is a great idea. I have a friend who can facilitate our using space at Irving Plaza and the Warsaw in Brooklyn during the day. Don't think I can guarantee free concert tickets though. I mentioned this to johnsvc for the play days too. After Drupalcon the 3 of us should check them out.

Let's chat soon, find out how viable it is as an option and what costs would be incurred if we were to head there?
