NYCDrupalCamp6 event will take place Saturday February 28th, 2009 at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn.
NYC Drupal Camps are free events, but we do need some sponsors in order to make it happen. Please get in touch with Eric to discuss sponsoring the event. As we have done in the past, any funds left over after we cover the costs of the event will be either donated to the Drupal Association or held to cover expenses of the next camp.

Where :: Polytechnic University in Brooklyn.
Sign Up / Register (its free)

WHAT IS DRUPAL CAMP?!?
Modeled in the camp unconference structure, drupalcamp is a no-holds-barred discussion, workshop/code-a-thon involving the Free Software content management system Drupal. At drupalcamp you ask the questions and the experts provide the answers; at drupalcamp you discover your solutions to your most pressing problems. Like previous drupalcamps, there will be a number of break out rooms...
Sessions / Schedule
If you're interested in presenting a at the camp or have problems/questions that need to be solved and you would like to see someone address at a session, visit the sessions page and add your idea.

Sponsors
In keeping with Drupal Camp tradition we hope to provide bagels/muffins, coffee/juices for breakfast and some oh-so-delicious pizza for Lunch. We always do our best to provide Vegetarian (vegan if requested) options.
Sponsors are needed to help pay for these goodies as DrupalCamp is not organization (thus has no cash). Sponsorship can come in various amounts. If you're an attendee chipin a few bucks, if you're a company consider fully or partially sponsoring Breakfast, Lunch or after-camp drinks.
Sponsors
We also have received a large sponsorship from a member of the community that wants to remain anonymous

Right Before DrupalCon?
February 28th is the weekend right before DrupalCon (two days). Really bad timing...... I probably won't be able to make it if this is the case.
timing
I've heard from some folks that are excited it is right before drupalcon since that means they will be in the country and able to attend.
Also, the overlap between people that attend drupal camp and those that attend drupalcon is not all that large.
Based on the fact that it looks like with no effort or outreach that we have already enough sponsors to pull off the event, I think there is enough interest to make it happen.
please remove yourself from the list
I notice you are still on the signup list. We've hit the limit on registration, if you think you won't make it, please remove your name from the list so someone else can attend.
Thanks.
Timing is a problem for many…?
Quite a few people have mentioned the timing, right before DrupalCon doesn't work for them.
My personal take is that having DrupalCamp just after DrupalCon (as all the ones in recent memory have been) works out best for a number of reasons. Chief among them, those of us attending DrupalCon can bring back some of the latest techniques & tips learned at DrupalCon with those who were unable to make it.
on timing
Forest,
You have a good point -- that doing the camp right after drupalCon would have certain advantages from an ability to share new knowledge perspective. I think that's a good criteria for scheduling that we should take into consideration in the future. (although I do think that we'd probably have as many people too busy after taking the time off for drupalCon as there are too busy in the days leading up to DrupalCon.)
Unfortunately, due to spring break, we could not get access to the space soon after drupalCon. It really came down to a choice between this coming weekend or waiting until much later in the spring. Judging from the full signup list and waiting list, I think it will turn out to be a great event.
See everyone tomorrow morning!
I would love to send some
I would love to send some people to this event (and maybe show up myself), but the timing is really bad since it is right before Drupalcon.

see you next time?
It looks like we're also starting the planning on the next Drupal camp that would be held in late august or early september. Hopefully that one will not conflict with other events and we'll see you there?

I signed up for DrupalCamp, but totally spaced that it was right before DrupalCon. That is an issue.

Time table?
Hola~
Do you guys plan to add the "time" column on the proposed session table? That will be very much appreciated.
BTW, if someone can host a session on best approach to database delta handling (i.e. propagating schema or CMS changes through dev, staging and production or multiple developer environment), that will be awesome~

schedule is set the mornging of the event
DrupalCamp runs on what's known as an 'unconference' format. The list is a suggestion, an idea of what sessions might be run.
Feel free to add your idea and we'll see if anyone feels comfortable taking it on.
The first session of the day, after breakfast, is scheduling the rest of the day, so we won't know the times until then.
It may be helpful to clean up the Sessions wiki page
While we are not setting session times until the day of the conference, it may be helpful to clean up the Sessions wiki page a little bit. Maybe the offered sessions table could come first to encourage people to think about presenting. Also, the requested sessions could could be put into a table format for consistency. It's a wiki page, so feel free to improve it.
This is the perennial discussion
We have had this discussion at the four previous camps that I've been to. Its never quite satisfying, as none of us really have a great solution to this issue. Though its always interesting to see how different people approach this issue.
That said I'm sure we'll find plenty of people who will be happy to talk about this, because its a frustrating part of Drupal development.

Drupal Camp NYC6
Hey,
Is there any way to confirm that I am registered for the event? I registered a while ago, and just noticed that my profile was not completely filled out. Just want to know my status. Am I signed up or on the waiting list?
Thanks
How to check your status
If you're not sure of your signup status, just go to http://groups.drupal.org/node/18467/attendees and look for yourself on the list.
The signup list is now full, but we've asked people who can't make it to cancel their signup (by clicking the button at http://groups.drupal.org/node/18467 just below the sponsor logos)
If you have signed up, please make sure that you have put in your full name in your profile - log in, click the "My Account" tab in the top menu, then click "edit" on your account page then click "Personal" to get to the right section of your profile and fill in the Real Name field with your name.

i haven't been to a camp
i haven't been to a camp before -- can anyone comment on the viability/etiquette of only attending part of the day? i signed up a while back, but am having trouble finding childcare for my son for the full day.
if it would not work well or be poor form to miss some of the day, i'll revoke my sign-up soon so that someone else can take it. conversely, if anyone can confirm that i can still participate in a meaningful way and not ruffle feathers if i can't make the full day, i'll hang on to my sign-up.
thanks for any thoughts.
depends on how much of the day and your experience level
If you are looking to get in on the beginner sessions, you might have a problem as that will start early and be a long session that could be hard to step into the middle of.
but, if you're looking for the mid-range sessions, I think you should show up.
Last time I thought to ask if people needed child care, but no one really had a need so I forgot to reach out to people this time. My apology about that, I hope we remember to add child care to the list of what we need next time.
thanks, Eric. i'm less
thanks, Eric. i'm less interested in the beginner sessions so i'm going to hang on to my sign-up and will see you there.
(and fwiw, i wouldn't have expected childcare to be provided by my local DUG! but it would be a nice perk :) )
Can't do it
I had really hoped to make it out...unfortunately there's just too much to be done before DrupalCon. I hate to miss yet another NYC Drupal event, but I've canceled my registration; hope someone else gets good use out of it!

thanks for letting us know
I'm sorry you can't attend, hopefully next time you can.
Also, thanks for being responsible to the community by removing yourself from the list.
While we organize these events with the understanding that more people will sign up than will show up, we do have a limit on how many names we can put on the list we give to NYU-Polytech, so by removing yourself you have allowed us to add someone else to that list and probably increase the ratio of signup to show up.
From what I've seen a higher percentage of those that register late end up showing up, so while to some it might seem unnecessary, removing yourself from the list is an important thing to do if you think you won't make it.
Thank you.
Is there room for a late signup?

My ol' desktop is going to be my guinea pig as I learn php and drupal. Would there be an extra monitor at the session I could borrow? I'm thinking of actually bringing my desktop along...as cumbersome as that sounds...to get the benefit of help installing WAMP and Drupal.

It's worth it even w/o laptop

Parking
Will there be free parking available at the school for DrupalCampers? Thanks.
mass transit is your best bet
there will be no free parking, there's no parking lot at the campus. It's also a rather busy section of Brooklyn so finding parking on the street might be a problem.
Mass transit is highly recommended.
Where are you coming in from?
Taking mass transit
I'm coming from NJ, but I will be taking mass transit. I was asking on behalf of another attendee.
Thank you for responding so quickly.
Car pooling
I am also coming from NJ (close to Newark) and I was thinking of driving to the camp. If someone wants to jump in the car with me send me a message.
Parking for DCamp this Saturday
Hey,
I'm driving to DrupalCamp this time as I'm driving down to the DC area in the evening after Drupal camp. Anyway, I've found parking a couple of blocks away, but it is pretty hit or miss (read difficult) to park on the street near the POLY building. However, there is a parking garage where the pedestrian exit is just across the street from the DrupalCamp building (look on this page for the map - http://groups.drupal.org/node/18541). It is labeled "Mariot", but the entrance to the garage is around the block on Adams street. You then exit on the street right across from Poly.
Thank you!
I will be also parking there.

Beyond the Basics - Attendance
Hello!
There is a small group of Drupalers coming from Parsons New School. We are interested in things beyond the basics and a possible share. We noticed there was an email sent out saying that a majority of the morning was spent setting up drupal and learning the fundamentals. Would it be helpful if we allowed other people to attend the morning and just come later or are sessions happening simultaneously? I have never participated in these things so not really sure of the overall structure. If someone could let me know, please do. Thanks.

concurrent sessions
There will most likely be a number of concurrent sessions. At past camps there have been a number of intermediate and advanced level sessions running at the same time as the intensive intro to drupal session for beginners.
You should show up at the beginning so you can participate in the scheduling of sessions for the day (which happens during the first session of the day)
Waiting List Closed
Everyone who was on the waiting list (or managed to sign up after Monday) WILL be able to attend - thanks very much to Poly for allowing us flexibility with this, and thanks to those who took themselves off the list to make room for others.
The only people who aren't on the list are those who didn't put their full name in their groups.drupal.org user profile - apologies but Poly requires names.
Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Definitely concurrent, not just intro!!
Intro session is usually popular because many people are coming to Drupal. But more than half of attendees will not attend the intro session and therefore other sessions will be going on as well. The sessions can be one person leading. Or sometimes sessions are a working group or panel. In the "BarCamp" style this is all hashed out in the morning with the schedule posted on post it notes before any sessions start. Pretty cool the way it all works out. If you can lead something that others want to see than definitely propose it. Or make your voice heard on what you would like to see.
See you there...
Peter
Lost and Found
There were a few things that were left behind in one of the class rooms at the end of camp. They are all decidedly low tech.
If you lost some low tech articles, please get in touch with me, or with Eric, and we will work out getting them back to you.
Good job.
I guess it's too gauche for a lot of geeks to identify themselves during a drupal camp session, so I don't have a terribly clear idea who everyone was who helped organize things for today's session, but kudos to all for a great job.
Well done. Thanks.
