Workflow Comment Log Permissions Module Proposal
We have a web site, http://articulation.statecenter.com that makes heavy use of the Workflow module. We have various user roles that have permissions to move nodes from various states in our workflow process. Workflow provides a simple comment form for these transitions and our users love that feature. Here is the rub. We have a monitor user role whose job it is to monitor the progress of these nodes. The good users of this role would like to be able to enter comments in the workflow log as well.

If anyone from LA Drupal, or our neighboring groups, has submitted a Core Developer Summit presentation then please comment here. I'd like to get a sense of who else made a submission. Maybe we can sit together and represent L.A. Drupal Devs some.
My submission is titled "Encourage more usage of PHP Interfaces In Drupal" and the slides are available at: http://www.slideshare.net/ccharlton/drupalcon-developer-summit-2010-ligh...

All,
Interesting link you may want to check out:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-10417141-264.html?tag=newsEditorsPicks...
They have a link to a Google Labs project here:
http://browsersize.googlelabs.com/
It's a simply web overlay that shows the percentage of visitors to your web site that may not be able to see the page without scrolling. They are using aggregated screen resolution statistics from visitors to google.com to calculate the percentages. This plays into the 'human side' of a site design in terms of placement of important buttons or items.
Happy Holidays,
Read moreCan LA based companies help with the Drupal.org redesign?
Drupal.org is going through a redesign and is asking for companies to volunteer. http://groups.drupal.org/node/37064
Right now there is only one SoCal Drupal company listed to help and I think some LA firms should consider volunteering to help produce the next Drupal web site, which is bound to get even more traffic come 2010 and D7's release. If you or your company is serious in getting on the list of contributors then review the details here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/37064 (and tell them LA Drupal sent you)

In case you didn't catch it, on Oct. 27 Chris Wilson posted a very ignorant article on Slate criticizing the Obama administration's choice of Drupal for whitehouse.gov (the title is "Why running the White House Web site on Drupal is a political disaster waiting to happen" - but I won't be linking to it here, it doesn't deserve a link). Anyone who knows Drupal will read the article and feel that he's just making stuff up. The article is a big "huh?!" His comments have no correlation to an actual experience with Drupal and the Drupal community!
Read moreMac users: what do you use to create password-protected zip archives?
A client wanted to send over some confidential information and was wondering how to password-protect a zip file. Incredibly, I couldn't find any graphical zip archive utilities for OS X that encrypt files, work in Snow Leopard and are free. 7zX claims to do this but it has some scary user-submitted reviews. Zippist looks promising but it doesn't seem to work in Snow Leopard. I actually use Path Finder or the command line for this, but it's unreasonable to ask most clients to do the same.

Hi:
I have read a lot about the drupal core and contributed modules and am excited and ready to download and begin using it.
But, being very much a beginner, downloading (e.g. modifying via the terminal) and setting up the local development environment for the three website projects I want to create seems daunting so I'm looking for a simple way to do this. (I do have MAMP PRO, but even so, it seems very complicated.)
In the course of my research, I came across an apple.com download...
