Drupalcon LA?

Just poking my head in here to see about Drupalcon LA. I see the Drupalcon proposal WIKI there on the frontpage and that looks really promising. The Association is currently accepting proposals for NA 2009 with a decision in early fall of this year.

If you have questions, want help, need clarification or anything else please feel free to contact me or anyone at the Association.

btw, I use you guys as an example of a strong community when I'm out n' about talking about Drupal in China; just thought you should know.

LA Code Sprint and Developer Workshop

I'd like to plan a workshop / code sprint within the next month in Los Angeles. I have a couple ideas on what we could tackle as a group, but am open to suggestions.

I'd like to accomplish two things in this session

1. Help mentor new developers teaching Drupal best practices and guidance in establishing/enhancing a good Drupal / LAMP development environments.
2. Create a new module from scratch - OR - fix a contrib module.

Slashdot Review of David Mercer's "Building Powerful and Robust Websites With Drupal 6"

Here's the URL for the review.

http://books.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/04/30/1346258&from=rss

The meat of the review is at the end--the first part is a summary of the content.

I have the book, and at my stage of development, it is quite useful, though for an experienced developer it's likely one step above a Dick and Jane reader, I suspect. The reviewer takes the author to task for excessive wordiness, sloppy proofreading, and too much cutesy-ness in general, all of which are pretty much right on.

But I think this book is a Godsend for the beginner.

Getting More Exposure through Group SU

I am new to the group...

But I wanted to submit my idea about getting more exposure / SEO / "Word Out" about the local L.A. Drupal Group.
[which, is great, by the way. Thanks for those who have made it possible and informed me.]

Here's my idea. It's simple.

Get everyone Inside and even Outside the group to 'tag' and/or 'do a write up' on their Stumble account!

Drupalcon 2008 :: Cool Sessions, Thoughts, and "New Stuff"

DrupalCon is about half way through and has been amazing! I'm suffering from a little information overload ... and loving it.

The purpose of this post is for people from the LA group who are fortunate enough to have attended DrupalCon to share their thoughts about things that they've discovered and want to share with the rest of the Los Angeles Drupal group. Jest tell us a little about what you learned or new modules you've discovered - give us some links to explore.

February Meeting Recap

Last nights meeting was great, we had a great turn out and 3 presentations. The presentations lasted for 2 hours and it was followed by about an hour of networking and mingling. Thanks to everyone who came out. Next months meeting looks quite promising with many local developers attending the Boston DrupalCon I'm sure there will be much to talk about and some great presentations (hopefully one about the new Drupal 6 features!!!).

I have gone ahead and posted my presentation notes online along with the source code for the custom module we used to add a new panel layout.
