DrupalCampNYC

We've secured the dates for the weekend of March 29 & 30th. This is short notice, but I am still convinced we can hold a stellar DrupalCamp on those dates.

The one issue is that Polytechnic cannot provide the large room we are accustomed to for the first day but it is available for the second day.

We have several available options:

A) Just use a smaller room. Our cap is 120 anyway, and I am thinking, while it may be crowded, for our brief meet and greet a smaller room will work fine.

DrupalCamp Sponsorship

[update march 20] Come on folks! There were a lot of offers made but few are following up that offer with sponsorship.

We need your help to make this event a success!

If you had posted an offer of sponsorship in the earlier discussions of drupal camp, you should have received an email from me about it.

If you are interested in sponsoring the upcoming Drupal Camp NYC, please get in touch with me (use the contact tab on my user account ( http://groups.drupal.org/user/1000 )

DrupalCamp Update take3

When last we left our intrepid drupalcamp devotees they had just given up their first set of dates as be too soon and moved to the weekend after DrupalCon Boston.

Alas, our normal location is hosting BarCampNYC the weekend of the 15/16 - which should be a ton of fun, I'll be there. We then, again intrepidly, looked into the weekend after that 22/23 - but remembered that Easter is the 23rd this year, and apparently some people do some stuff for that sometimes.

Childcare for drupalcamp?

If people think it would be useful, I can contact the folks that coordinated child care at an event I helped with last year. But I'll need to know what to tell them to expect.

If we were to provide childcare during drupalcamp, how many people might take advantage of it? how many kids might we have, and what are the ages.

Pre-meetup DrupalCamp talk

This is totally informal and will be used just to garner ideas, not to make decisions. As per our poll I am sending out emails tonight to our possible venues scoping out Mar 15/16 and Mar 22/23.

Anyone who wants to talk in person about the camp, I'll be in front of WTC7 at 6:00 tomorrow night. We can also discuss in post-meetup drinks. Hopefully I can share availability by then.

Once I know a date I can seriously start using volunteers, and will start contacting people off the list we generated. Thanks!

Cheers!

OK, the results are in...

Hey all, based on the poll, looks like the top dates are:

Jan 26/27
Feb 9/10
And March 15/16

We'd do well to not collide with SXSW so I will be checking the dates at polytechnic in that order. If both of the first two work, we can do a run off vote.

More on all this soon, and thanks to all the people who say they can volunteer, I'll throw out an open list of tasks sometime soonish.

Happy Holidays!

open letter to the group

Dear DrupalNYC,

Please know this is absolutely not directed at any individual(s) but there is something I want to say to this group in general.

<suzi climbs onto the soapbox>
I find all the recent discussions around both the meetups and upcoming drupalcamp (paired with various power struggles and micromanagement) annoying and so counter to the open-source and 'barcamp' way of doing things I am inches from not wanting to participate at all.

Sponsors Wiki

Wow! This is truly amazing. Normally we hunt for sponsors, not the other way around! Please sign up below, and someone will be in touch with you soon-ish. We're all super busy, so if someone doesn't get right back to you, don't panic, its not because we aren't uber-grateful.

Seperate Site, or not to Seperate Site

OK, so the previous thread is entirely too long. I am splitting out its issues into separate threads to better move the discussion forward.

Some people want a DrupalCampNYC site, some want just the existing groups.drupal.org page and the barcamp page as was done in the past successfully.

I would like to suggest a compromise. It has been suggested that the barcamp page funnel barcampers to the drupalcampNYC page. Lets reverse that. The people who want to can make a kickass drupal site, but registration is on the barcamp site.

Meetups, Planning for next Drupal Meetup/Camp

Hello NYCDrupallers!
I had missed a previous meetup or two to the last one so it was good to see you all there. I think things went well, and it has been a joy watching us grow. I remember the meetup, probably a year and a half ago, where it was just me an Jacob sitting in an empty room :) This time I showed up a little late and had to sit outside.
I think we are hitting a critical mass of sorts where we need to start defining a 'meetup' vs. a 'hack-a-thon' vs. a 'lesson' so that we can best serve the needs of everyone around.
