Transitioning and Managing a University Wide Migration to a Single Drupal Site

Hello, Is it possible to run a large university site with many themes and the roles of different content editors on a single installation? We are in the early stages of recommending a CMS for our university and this has been a question that has been raised multiple times with no clear answer about Drupal. I am seeking feedback, configurations and best practices on transitioning university wide web pages to a common Drupal installation.

Deciding how to structure a school's intranet

How are people defining classrooms? Are you making a group for each class or are you using taxonomy? Have you got the dashboard working showing all of a student's assignments? Is gradebook working right? Please share what you've learned about the best way to organize classrooms in organic groups.

Here's what I'm doing: I am using OA (Beta 8) as a classroom tool for schools; the promise of team-based projects is the attraction. Having an easy, and also slick, way to do this is great.

But I am struggling with how to organize the groups.

Open university system

Hello friends!
I hear at the acquia webinar that OpenScholar planing to integrate some university functional.
I discussed few projects for universities and large medical centers and I think that such sites need microsites with own spaces and features for faculties or departments.
I decided to built this system. I think this system could be very expected, because it meets requirments of large communities. Imagine community of some association with main site and many microsites of organizations who make this community.

School District Multisite Shared Calendar?

So we run our school district main page as well as a separate site for each of our schools with the multi site feature of Drupal. There is a main District site and then 9 more sites, one for each school with a separate database for each school. Each of these individual sites maintains their own calendar using the calendar and date modules. I was recently asked if we could have the calendar on the main district site fed by all of the individual site calendars. Using the feeds module has gotten me close but not quiet there.

Strengthening open source in Nigeria

Firstly, this discussion is inspired by a discussion I had with Abayomi Ayoola (murpheus) about LinuxFest event we intend to organize in Nigeria.

The discussion goes like this:

[9/9/2010 2:07:45 PM] Abayomi Ayoola: I sent an email to Linux Foundation
[9/9/2010 2:08:12 PM] Abayomi Ayoola: and they would be glad to sponsor LinuxCon or LinuxFest in Nigeria
[9/9/2010 2:08:25 PM] Kayode Odeyemi: cool
[9/9/2010 2:08:45 PM] Kayode Odeyemi: so what's your plan
[9/9/2010 2:31:56 PM] Abayomi Ayoola: I think they usually cover the whole event

What is your webserver OS?

Hello everyone. In an attempt to try to get our operations team to switch our web server OS from Solaris I need to try to gather some information on what Operating System other Universities are using. If you could take the time to post what OS you are using and what University you are from that would be really helpful to me. Thank you in advance.

Is there a Drupal moodle port (LMS distribution) project

Moodle is great, but I'm still surprised by some of the clunkiness and bugs in it. It seems like it would work better and be more extensible if "ported" (not exactly) to run on top of the drupal platform.

I was just wondering if there is already a Drupal LMS install profile or bundle available. I see the active work being done on the drupal quiz and gradebook modules.

If there isn't, then perhaps some folks might want to see if there any funding for such an effort, too.

Thanks

Online Forms and security

Hello,

I would love some feedback / discussion regarding security and the submission of online forms using sensitive data. I work for a small college and our website is hosting in a shared environment. There has been discussion about making the college application form, application for residence form and a few others available online. What tips / concerns can you provide to securely get the information from the user in an encrypted fashion?

My primary concerns are storage of private information on a shared server and emailing of private information in an unencrypted fashion.

Access control problem with gradebook and organic groups.

Hi all:

I'm trying to create a digital notebook for use in my school. I'm using organic groups and Gradebook. I guess my problem have a simple solution, but I am not able to find it. I want that when a student response to one assignment, this response can only be seen by the teacher and the student himself, not by the other students. I can not do it. When a student answer the teacher's task, the response is always seen within the group. I used the content access module, but it does not work. All the students in the group can see the response. Could you give me a hand? Thanks.

Drupal and Sub sites

I am working on migrating our entire College site into Drupal.
We have 50+ sub sites (sub directories, not subdomains) that will need their own "site".
We will be using LDAP to authenticate users.
Each user will have the ability to edit content, upload files, add images and video, add edit and delete pages etc.

I would like to have one point of update for Drupal core files and installed modules for all sites.
I would think that having separate db's for each site makes sense, but I could also argue the other way as well.

Eduglu Alpha 4 is here!

I'm pleased to announce the fourth developer release of Eduglu. Download it at http://eduglu.com/download-eduglu

For this release, we've ported to Eduglu the excellent Notebook feature from Open Atrium, a Drupal-based intranet package. This is a great example of the power of open source development, that improvements to one branch of the Drupal family tree can easily shared and reused on another branch. Expect to seem more of this as the larger Eduglu/Drupal ecosystem grows.

Along with this major addition, there was the normal assortment of bug fixes plus small visual touch-ups.
