Austin

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Welcome to the Austin Drupal Users Group!

As of April 2025, we are no longer posting events in this group (there are too many places to post events and groups.drupal.org is dying a slow death).

TxDUG / Texas Drupal organizers are collecting contact info for Drupalers in Texas so we can stop being reliant on other platforms (here’s looking at you Meetup.com) for communicating announcements. Please fill out this form so we can email you about Drupal events in Texas (you can choose which regions).

Please join us in the #austin-texas channel on Drupal Slack. If you aren't already on Drupal Slack, join here.

We continue to post our meetups in Drupal.org's Community Events section.

For now, RSVPs for our meetups are in our Meetup Group, but this might change in the future. Best to be in our Slack channel or on our email list.

Hope to see you at an upcoming meetup!

Exploring Drupal and Video for Workshop

I'm interested in working with others to explore Drupal and Video with a goal of developing a meet-up presentation on this topic.

I don't want to define it too much here, because I'd rather this be a collaborative effort. For now, I'm curious of the registered users in this group, who among us are interested in video.

The modules listed below are in some way useful for video. I've not used or tested any of them. This is what I'm interested in doing as well as finding others here who may have experience already.

Austin Drupal Users Group - Individual Introductions!

Hey Austin!

If you want to give a shout out as to what you do and how you're working with Drupal, that would be great!

During our meetups, we really don't have time for attendees to share detailed intros with the group. We tried intros at one of our meetups and, in the process, consumed over an hour when we could have been learning or teaching others about Drupal.

As a result, intros at future meetups will be great if they're no more than 10 seconds long each to provide basics such as your name, your organization, and what you're doing/hoping to do with Drupal, e.g. "Hi, I'm Walt Esquivel, I'm with Wellness Corps, and I'm using Drupal to help me establish a wellness presence primarily through Organic Groups." For everything else intro-related that you want to share with the Austin DUG, please do it online. This page is the place for you to do it! :)

Editable Notes from the 6/19 Meetup

Can someone please post what modules are being used to create this wiki type page? (Selwyn 10-3-07)

These notes were originally part of this article. I moved them to this wiki page so that others could contribute comments and corrections.

General Order of Setup

These are the things generally done (in order) to configure a Drupal site after initial installation.

  • Site Configuration > Clean URLs
  • Site Configuration > Site Information
  • Site Configuration > Date and Time (set time zone)

Notes from the 6/19 Meetup

The 6/19 meetup was once again at Four Kitchens studios. During tonight's gathering, David Strauss talked about multi-site Drupal configuration, basic site configuration procedure, and (the night's main topic) most essential and useful modules for a Drupal site. The meeting was very well attended (about 20 people) and David (as always) gave a great presentation.

Good Austin Meeting

Tonight's Austin Drupal meeting was the first I attended. And I enjoyed it. I'm especially glad to see follow-up meetings set for CiviCRM, Basic Drupal Installation, and Theming -- for this June.

As I said at the meeting, around the country there is interest on the part of public access and community media in Drupal.

Here is a website where some of this development is described:
www.pegspace.org

On this site, it mentions Manhattan Neighbohood Networks' work with CiviCRM.

getting together before the next official get together

Hey Austin,

Because of travel, I have not been able to go to the last two Austin Drupal get togethers. I am very interested in learning a little bit more about Drupal- I have a demo site that I have set up, but now need some help on taking Organic Groups to the next level.

I am wondering if anyone is available / interested in getting together this next week for an unofficial get together, again at the Dog and Duck, at 7 pm on Tuesday 5/15/07.

If there are at least a couple of people that can join in, I would enjoy getting together with you.

Start:
2007-06-05 19:00 - 21:00 US/Central

EDIT dated 5/30/07. I'm hoping someone with Drupal experience will step forward and give a short "Welcome to Drupal" presentation at the meetup on Tuesday. In addition, I'm hoping a few folks step forward and volunteer to give module presentations and/or overviews. If you plan on presenting something, could you please add a short blurb below as to what you will cover for the meetup? Thank you!

Skills barter? / Reciprocal training / Barn-raising?

One of the things I'd like to get out of this group is some closer, shoulder-to-shoulder work to really immerse myself in Drupal. I was thinking this might work as a skills / training barter.

I've got a Drupal project I'm trying to get off the ground, but I'm struggling with it. I need a shove in the right direction, and some more hands-on experience with Drupal (and php, sql) to carry me over the hump. I'd love to get some structure around my learning, and the quick feedback and dialog you can only get when working directly with someone who knows what they are doing.

Penguin Day gives nonprofits an opportunity to explore free and open source software. Austin will have its first Penguin Day on April 28 at Ventana del Soul - specifics are posted at http://effaustin.org/penguin/. We need knowledgeable presenters for the topics on the agenda, which is posted at http://effaustin.org/penguin/agenda.html. If you want to take ownership of a topic or help with a breakout group, please email me (jonl at polycot.com).

Beginning in Drupal - June 5, 2007 Austin

This page is intended to help structure what "Drupal for Beginners" might entail. Add what you would like to present or see presented, or comment on the appropriateness of someone else's suggestions. What better way to brainstorm a good presentation than to collaborate on a living document, and what better form to collaborate remotely than on a wiki?

April Meet-up Follow-up

Thanks, Walt, for setting this up, and thanks all who attended for attending. I thought I'd drop a line of encouragement to anyone contemplating coming out into the sunlight at future meetings.

I enjoyed meeting the lot of you and learning some good tips both in Drupal and site hosting in general (well, in gory detail on David's end of the table). It was good to learn a bit about load balancing and php optimization. As the meeting was breaking up, we got a nice glimpse of forms api that was like gold to see.

Codeathon 2.0 in Austin, TX -- Build open source web apps for non-profits!

Start:
2007-04-21 12:00 - 2007-04-22 18:00 US/Central

April 14 and 21-22, two non-profits, The League of Technical Voters and Knowbility.org, will host Designathon/Codeathon 2.0 in Austin, Texas. This is the second in a series of volunteer events based to help build usable, accessible open source web tools for non-profits. Development will not be restricted to any particular platform or language, but the previous codeathon was based entirely on Drupal and we are hoping to have a strong Drupal contingent at this one as well.
