Welcome to the Austin Drupal Users Group!
As of April 2025, we are no longer posting events in this group (there are too many places to post events and groups.drupal.org is dying a slow death).
TxDUG / Texas Drupal organizers are collecting contact info for Drupalers in Texas so we can stop being reliant on other platforms (here’s looking at you Meetup.com) for communicating announcements. Please fill out this form so we can email you about Drupal events in Texas (you can choose which regions).
Please join us in the #austin-texas channel on Drupal Slack. If you aren't already on Drupal Slack, join here.
We continue to post our meetups in Drupal.org's Community Events section.
For now, RSVPs for our meetups are in our Meetup Group, but this might change in the future. Best to be in our Slack channel or on our email list.
Hope to see you at an upcoming meetup!
Designathon 2.0 in Austin, TX -- Build open source web apps for non-profits!
April 14 and 21-22, two non-profits, The League of Technical Voters and Knowbility.org, will host Designathon/Codeathon 2.0 in Austin, Texas. This is the second in a series of volunteer events based to help build usable, accessible open source web tools for non-profits. Development will not be restricted to any particular platform or language, but the previous codeathon was based entirely on Drupal and we are hoping to have a strong Drupal contingent at this one as well.

FYI: There was a post on the Austin Bootstrappers ListServ indicating http://www.austinfilm.org/ is looking for a "web master". Their site is built using Drupal. I don't have anymore info, but wanted to pass the lead to our group.

Themers! Where are you? Let's get together. There's lots of work to be had, and we can throw some your way. I'm tired of turning away clients (due to workload) without referring them to designers I know and trust. I want to meet you and give you work!
My apologies for the job-ish posting -- I know it's not the ideal forum. I tried posting in Paid Drupal services a week ago, but as the comments reveal, many of the replies were from overseas companies whose websites are rife with design and spelling errors.

I came up with a nifty, albeit jerry-rigged, hybrid Drupal solution that I wanted to share with the local community. If I can make it in April, I will be happy to share the inner-workings.

Hello All
Sorry for introducing myself this way, I am new here a.k.a. the Noob... I have never used Drupal, I have built sites the Old fashion way and was informed by a lost friend that Drupal was the way to do it. I am really excited and would really love to learn how to set it up and get cracking at it. If anyone can please help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tone

There's only so much one can see of Texas between Austin's airport and convention center, but there's a great not-so-secret-to-Austinites barbecque pit about 30 minutes outside of the city, deep in the hill country. It's a great way to see the countryside if you're from out of town. And if you're feeling like I do -- tired of loud parties and crowds -- it's also the perfect opportunity to kick back.

The members of Four Kitchen Studios will be attending the Creative Commons party tonight to celebrate the CC-licensed (and very Drupalish) That Other Paper.
To attend:

2. RSVP with your name.
Drinks are free.

Well several great things came out of the first day of SXSW Interactive, well less than a half day, just registration really. Needless to say things are going really well and there is tremendous interest in Drupal. Another great thing that came out of Friday's registration is we (paretech.com, Four Kitchen Studios, and BarCamp Austin got together to create a last minute t-shirt for drupal users.

Intro to BarCampAustin
Imagine a full day of SXSWi devoted to hanging out with like-minded people at a bar. That's BarCamp, and the organizer, Whurley, wants Drupal to make a splash. According to Whurley, BarCampAustin will be "more ad hoc than we can possibly stand" and "100% nuts." (Oh, and there will be fully customizable T-shirts screen-printed on demand.) EXCELLENT!

The following schedule is tentative — SXSW has not yet released final times/dates of most speakers. The website indicates that most panels end at 6:00pm, so we can probably get together in the evening. Feel free to add or brainstorm!

Noticing the unusually high interest but lack of experienced developers at our local DUG I would like to propose assembling a Drupal Crash Course that covers the basics and gets everyone on some firm development/contribution footing. Topics that i would like to cover:
- basic database schema (table relationships, incoming FK support)
- bootstrap process and its relation to loading modules (a good over view of this helps you understand how everythign works)
- drupal menu system (D5 and preliminary info on D6 hook_router/dispatch split)
Designathon w/ League of Technical Voters and knowbility
We are gearing up to do another codeathon April 21/22... But first lets get together and design those tools with the NonProfits.
We will be meeting at the MCC building in North Austin April 13/14. More details shortly. We are hoping to kick it all off with a party in yuri's honor on April12th.
Mark it in your calendar!

Is there any interest in finding a night Drupal users lucky enough to be in Austin during SXSWi can get together?
SXSW is my favorite conference. I leave Austin both energized and exhausted every year. In addition to putting together great keynotes and panels, there is plenty of time to mingle with other geek speakers at the evening events. I don't know if it's the weather (Austin is a great place to be in March!), the food (the Iron Cactus serves a deep fried Jalapeño ribeye!), or the free (as in beer) beer, but I'm always inspired after meeting so many people working on such creative, interesting projects.

Who
Calling all Austin Drupalers!
What
Austin Drupal User Group Monthly Meetup!
When
Wednesday, February 7th. 7-10 pm. As of Feb 1 '07, the poll to vote on your preferred day and time for the monthly Drupal meetup resulted in 21 total votes. Majority wins, so Wednesday, 7-10 pm it is.
Where
I received a few suggestions and am going with Dog and Duck for our February 7 meetup. I called them and was told they do allow free wireless Internet access but that folks need to BRING A CHARGED BATTERY FOR YOUR LAPTOP as they only have one spot to plug in an electrical cord. If your battery is low when you arrive at Dog and Duck, you and your laptop may be out of luck.
If you have a place in mind for our next meetup, please add your comment and include the venue name, address, phone number, and a URL, if available. Office/university space that works for about a dozen (12) folks is good as well, but we'll need an address, your cell phone number, and whether or not any special access is required.
Why
The Austin DUG wants YOUR participation and your fellow Drupalers want to meet you, make new friends/professional contacts, and learn about how you're using Drupal.
