LA Drupal management on groups.drupal.org
Tonight I went through the LA Drupal group's member list on groups.drupal.org and removed the administrator privileges from the accounts of several people who haven't been active recently or aren't directly involved in running the group. I'm announcing this because I'd like everyone to know that while our group has fewer admins now than before, the daily to day moderation of the group on groups.drupal.org remains the same and I hope this isn't seen as a consolidation of power.
On the contrary, our current admins (shown in the "Group organizers" list in the sidebar) absolutely want to hear from anyone and everyone who's interested in helping out and fostering the development of LA Drupal. Just like how anyone in the Drupal community has a say about how they want to participate, everyone in the LA Drupal community is invited to foster the development of our group, both online and offline.
If you see anything that doesn't belong in the group (like spammy comments or job listings that violate US laws), please let the Maintenance team or groups.drupal.org administrators know. Thanks!

At a recent meeting we asked if there would be LA Drupal members interested in helping edit down videos from our huge Drupal Camp at the Los Angeles Convention Center in 2008. We had three tracks over two days, and that video is very educational and we wish to share them with the larger Drupal community.
If you are a person who can help by accepting a unedited video from us and give back an edited version with what we need done to the video(s), then we'd like your help.
Please post your interest in volunteering by commenting below.

Excited to hear about the venue change from next month... but Chris, you also mentioned a subtle change to the format... I was wondering whether you would consider including 5 minute 'lightning talks'. Kind of open-mike (ie, minimal preparation). I've seen it at other Drupal meets and works well, especially when the MC is pretty strict about presenting/Q&A within the 5 min limit. Can give a nice focus for networking/chit chat - and can be a bit of a warm up for those more detailed presentations.

The first videos that are listed are our May 2008 recordings of Scott Nelson covering the Services module and AMFPHP module (four parts).

Not to overlap or commondeer the proposed/schedule website discussion but in the light of open source:
My thinking on a "mini-me" meeting in-between the official LA Drupal Monthly meetings
would be an actual casual small meeting in-person at a location with wifi.
The purpose of the meeting would be:
- To have an opportunity to go over and discuss on-going topics currently that are
upcoming where people could share and contribute input, help manage, volunteer,
or generally discuss topics that benefit the LA Drupal community.

we're mostly friendly. and mostly fun. but we're pretty geeky. in a cool way, of course. but this month we're a bit melancholy on the news Crystal is leaving us for Seattle. :-/
the good news is that we taped our meeting. ya, real geeky. but LA area is HUGE. and sometimes making it to the meeting in person can be difficult. so there you go... we're geeky but thinking about everyone that wanted to join us, but couldn't.
