Talking to Drupal from Flash AS2

Abstract: This case study describes two ways to push data collected within a Flash activity into the Drupal database. The two solutions vary in some important ways: the ability to enable AHAH form submission to avoid page refreshes, the ability to access collected data from Views, the ability to export collected data to a spreadsheet, and of course, ease of implementation. One caveat for both solutions is that they do rely on javascript. The only non-javascript solution I am aware of involves the use of AMFPHP and the Services module. Implementation of these is easy if you are working in AS3. Not so much for AS2.

Lightweight electronic portfolio

I am using Drupal's blog module to provide a lightweight electronic portfolio tool to students and teachers. I could use your feedback on the approach I've taken using content_access and hook_form_alter. Is this the best/safest way to do this? I still feel like a relative newbie to making these modifications.

For a fuller example of the reason for using blog as a portfolio, please see http://www.kassblog.com/item/1030

I added a checkbox field to the blog content type.

Only local images are allowed.

Need help (paid if necessary) migrating a training site

Hi,

I posted http://drupal.org/node/633972 in the forum, looking for help, but got only generic replies. We need someone who understands Drupal and how it can be used in training (not "education").

Most of the help would be in identifying the right modules to duplicate the functionality we've already got, avoiding gotchas, identifying where we might need to do some coding, and how to theme the training site so it's both accessible and looks good.

One item that comes up is whether we should use the Book content type, with what additional modules, and how to integrate it with Quiz.

How to: restrict Group post/Menu specific to OG Type

I have multiple Group Nodes (OG) of different types. I want to have each of the groups to have its own standard post assigned and its own Menu.

For example:

I have OG of Groups Type say Group A, Group B. I have other nodes (standard post) like Node 1, Node 2, Node 3, Node 4.

I want to have Node 1, Node 2 as Group post only in Group A and Node 3 and Node 4 as Group post only in Group B.

Also each group type will have their own home pages with its own set of Menu.

How to do this.

How to best share a drupal site?

I was recently part of a poster on our Drupal-based Collaborative Sites Platform at EduCause.

As a part of the session proposal, I promised an "online starter kit" that would allow people to download our version of Collaborative Sites, install it on their own servers, tinker away, and perhaps even collaborate with us on improving it moving forward.

Where to draw the line between sites, concentrating on data sharing, linking, and stability

I'm working on a migration to Drupal for a small university, roughly 2500 students and we're trying to figure out how many sites, what deserves its own site and what departments should be mixed together.

Elementary Teacher Pages

Last spring we moved our districts web pages over to drupal. Since then we have been helping teachers that would like to have their own page build one in druapl. For the most part we have used either book pages for them or just a single page. The issue we have ran into is that elementary teachers tend to want their page to be, for lack of a better word, cute. Like they want graphics of teddy bears or cartoon characters.. etc.

Single Sign-On choice

Hi,

We're looking at SSO solutions to replace the system we currently use which was built in-house. Our requirements (for now) are:

  • Works with Drupal
  • Works with WordPress
  • Works with custom PHP applications
  • Supports LDAP, Kerberos and optionally SPNEGO
  • Ideally Open Source
  • High Availability

We've narrowed down our choices to four options:

  • CAS
  • CoSign
  • OpenSSO
  • Shibboleth

Finishing up quiz 4

Quiz 4 is now more or less feature complete, but it is probably very unstable. We could use help from the community in testing the module.

Any and all patches are off course very much appreciated as well!

Here are the open issues:

Certificates for Quiz Completions

Hi All,

For those of you out there that use, or plan to use, Quiz module....

I'm trying to organize requirements for a new module that would work with quiz to provide certificates (PDF or otherwise) to signify the completion of a Quiz. These could be printed, emailed, etc. I have the current specs typed up in the following google doc:
http://docs.google.com/View?id=dvc73g9_6cpvkbpdb

And this has been discussed already some over on d.o in this thread:
http://drupal.org/node/501874

There appears to be a fair amount of interest in this functionality, so I wanted to open the floor for comments here as well, before firing off development on this. Let me know what you think... missing requirements? missing use cases? bad approaches? etc...

And... my apologies for the made up username here. My normal account isn't working... despite synch requests...

Drupal Kata (our homegrown project learning program) is taking shape

Hi there -

Just to follow up for those who aren't already aware/involved (most of you), the Drupal Kata (http://drupalkata.com/) is up and running and we're starting to generate a bit of interest. That said, we're still very much in need of leaders, mentors, advisers, and apprentices in the areas of project/sprint/task management, education, business, and marketing. Developers, designers, themers, are obviously pretty key, but it helps when there are people to provide guidance.

These may be good points of entry -

drupal cursussen / drupal courses

Document management/file repository module?

Can anyone recommend a way to store files within a drupal site? We're looking at putting our school intranet on drupal. We don't need document management the way a huge corporation would; we're a small independent school (500 students). But we would like a place to put school forms, etc. Thanks in advance!
