Tracking User Progress - has anyone done it?
I was stumbling aruond drupal.org and found two modules: http://drupal.org/project/content_complete and http://drupal.org/project/complete
Now I'm not entirely sure if either will do what I want but it seems like both at least are heading in the right direction. I'm looking for some kind of if/then logic in that when a user completes task x they get %y added to their total. In my use-case it's % completed of a course or lesson. Has anyone else used either of these projects or do any kind of user progression tracking?
Read moreAttendance system for a class
Hi,
I have been implementing website/crm solution for a school. And I am stuck at implementing a attendance system for it. This attendance system will also include attendance of teachers. Right now I am creating a form with the name of students and giving select list options (present, absent, others) in front of them.
but this solution is not very elegant and analyzing it really difficult. Can anyone help me in this area.
Thanks
Nikhil
Course Database
I am creating a database where users can enter a course, the times it's offered, etc. I can do this using CCK and a custom node type, but I have a problem saying, for example that if the delivery type is distance than a class room and class time is not required.

Open Homeroom:
I imagine that the following story is not unique to me. In response to a bunch of wining from fellow teachers about how complicated Drupal is, I started making some tutorials to show what could be done easily for a single classroom with Drupal without any coding or even extra modules, other than the core ( http://flossed.org/homeroom_homework_site_with_drupal6 ).

6.x-4.0-BETA1 Has now been released. I am releasing this as beta as there have been major changes and additions and I think its stable enough for a beta. We still need help testing this before its implemented in a production environment. This is a rewrite of the 6.x-3.x branch. The major improvements are listed below:
* FTP Video Attach. (Ability to FTP all your videos at once and then attach the videos through a drop-down)
* FLVTool2 integration.

Student Information System in/with Drupal
I just came across http://opensis.com/ - I don't have a current use for it, but at DrupalCon folks were wondering about whether Drupal could be made to do this sort of thing
My sense was that it wasn't a Drupal sort of thing to do - that using Drupal as a learning platform should be more "outside" this sort of function. BUT...if there were an OpenSIS module that connected student accounts to a Drupal site, that might make some sense to someone.
If anyone cares about this issue, comment?
Thanks,
Bram
Our take on a Drupal LMS
Hia all, very glad to see more people wanting to push Drupal into the LMS market! :)
I considered chiming in on the "please join the LMS group" discussion, but instead I'll just describe how we are approaching these issues at the Norwegian centre for telemedicine. We now use ATutor as our LMS, but are working towards building most of our courses in Drupal instead. ATutor is fast, intuitive and user friendly, but has some shortcomings and is much harder to extend and develop for than Drupal. And in addition the community of Drupal is much, much larger and more vibrant.

I was just wondering if we could get a working list of tools and modules that would be useful to academics in general.
I am working on a website for the academics that work with my non-profit, and have been trying to find and use tools in a useful way to them (sometimes more successful than others)

Hi Everyone,
Here is a presentation I gave at the Berkeley Drupal User Group on Tuesday, and also will be delivering tonight at the South Bay LAMP meetup. It is basically a walkthrough on design and architecture decisions into current practices here at SF State.
Constructive criticism is welcome and encouraged. Also, it's in Powerpoint format but I made it on Ubuntu using OO Impress, so let me know if there are weird formatting issues.

Join the Drupal in Higher Education Group
As a result of the amazing discussions and sessions at Drupalcon San Francisco, it became apparent that there was a real need to start a Drupal group specifically for higher education. This group is not looking to duplicate the efforts of the Drupal in Education Group, but to serve as a space to deal with issues specific to higher education.

Read moreOn Campus Drupal Hosting: Approved Modules
At DrupalConSF 2010 I was interested to hear how many campuses were providing Drupal hosting for their departments. Once common element of this is that many of us have created a collection of approved modules that we offer in sites/all/modules for our clients. I am interested in what modules you offer. I've created a spreadsheet here. If you care to add a column for your institution and rows for any modules not already listed, we might create a useful resource.

I would also like to learn about the following in this thread:
- Are clients allowed to add modules to their sites or does central IT approve all new modules requests?
- What is your criteria for module inclusion?
- Do you attempt to keep modules and core updated on all sites as security releases are issued? What is your procedure?
Drupal Based Course Search via real-time data feeds from Banner
Here are a few examples shared at DrupalConSF, these are still in dev and not in a production environment. Also we are working on overall performance:

During one of the edu BOF's at drupalcon sf, a small group of us got together to discuss our needs for a lms (learning management system) powered by drupal. Various schools and groups seem to be doing pieces of this puzzle but we would all benefit from getting together to discuss further and hopefully create a solution that could work for more of us as an alternative to blackboard or sakai, etc.
We started a new group here on g.d.o. to help us organize. If this is something you have interest in, please head over and join!
