In need of a bit of guidance

Hello,

Im Scott, a new user to the drupal community. As one of the few students in my high school that has any clue with HTML and CSS, i have been asked to create a website for my school newspaper to post articles, photos, videos, and have discussions. The advisor asked me to use drupal, so I am gladly obliging...

However, I am brand spankin new to Drupal, and have no clue what to put into this site. I read the list of recommended modules, but there are so many of those i dont know where to start, nor how to use them/combine them.

Best image solution for news site

Hi all,

I am working on converting an existing news site to Drupal 6. There are some really nice write ups on this group and suggestions that have helped out on the way. I think the only thing I am not sure of at this point is the best image solution for the site.

Hi, I'm new here to this group and new to drupal. I have been using drupal nearly 2 months for my school at http://smpaphm.net. It should serve two purposes, 1) info about school 2) delivering news to school citizens as well as to the public. I want the website frontpage to look like a newspaper website as the news will be provided by the students.

Archive Ique to drupal archive?

Hello Everyone,
We are moving our newspaper site to drupal 6 and I would like to add our entire archive of stories from our Archive Ique to our new Drupal archive as well. Has anyone here had any experience with this or other transfer options? I am somewhat new to drupal so any tips on creating the archive, transferring stories from Baseview/Mediaspan archive, or the like would be so helpful. I am glad to be a part of this group and will post a writeup on our methods, setup, modules, success and pitfalls after this whole process is done. Lots o' learnin to do yet. Thanks Eric.

Possible idea for acheiving publishing workflow complete with post editing restrictions

I am building a site that is in need of a publishing workflow that needs to be able to revoke editing of posts after a certain transition occurs. A few ideas seem like they could work. The one that seems relatively easy to implement I will outline here.

In the section Modules: Content display, some newspaper/magazine modules are listed: E-Publish, Innovation News, E-Journal. If there were webmasters or developers in this group who have tried them, I think it would be useful for many of us to know your opinions and experiences. Thank you.

Best training materials for staff

What educational materials do you use for training writers, editors, photographers, etc. on using a new Drupal newspaper site? I was thinking about Lullabot's "intro to drupal" video, but thought it might cover too much, since sometimes making people aware of other stuff that's available in the site can end up 10x worse than just showing them one little part.

What have you all done in the past?

We are launching a newspaper website in the next couple of days. The site is in Drupal. Can any comments on the ini settings? Does the server conf enough for the load shown.

The site has to serve:
Number of visits 35,720
Pages 205,129
Hits 1929,027

The server configuration:
Processor: Quadcore 2.66 ghz * 2
Ram: 8GB
Harddisk: 146Gb * 5

My.ini configuration:

Sugesstion needed: pdf to swf page flipping in drupal

On a newspapers site, I need to do something like this:

The source file I will have is a pdf of the actual printed newspaper, so ideally I would like to create a node and just upload the pdf and drupal auto-magically creates a page flip flash as shown above in the example.

I have searched around drupal.org for hours and been googling, but all the page flip software I have found thus far is paid software.

The closest module I have come across is http://drupal.org/project/ipaper

Looking for opinions on 3rd party ad serving systems. Our current service (Burst Media AdConductor) was inherited from earlier development efforts and I'd like to compare it against other systems popular with media sites. Hi All,

I am a newbie in Drupal. Which drupal version 5 or 6 will be idle to go for a newspaper site. Are there enough stable modules in 6 that will leverage a newspaper site and also themes that I can start on. From the basic reading I did on drupal site, I find ZEN is the best theme to start on developing new themes but I dont find a stable version of ZEN in 6.

Any ideas, input highly appreciated.

How to make Sports page?

I have a newspaper web site I have created and am expanding in Drupal. I wish to have a second "front" page of the site - a Sports page, which will look like the front page and have more spots for advertising, etc. Users will be able to select Sports via navigation and be directed to this page.

When I create a page in Drupal it shows the title of the page on the upper left of the page, but on the main page of the site, there is no title. I want a page like the main (front) page w/o the title so that I can display a "SPORTS" banner on the top.

Hey all, I have an interesting issue. I'm building a site for a newspaper that deals with a large region of the state, but wants to make sure that the content is very specific to each town within that region. So that when a visitor comes to the site, they see town-specific content.

I am looking into the options for a home page of a newspaper site. The basic design we are looking at is similar to the news.fedex.com site. This is the functionality we are looking for and haven't seen one with it. I have looked at slideshow, but it doesn't seem to be exactly what we are looking for. This also could have been custom built, but I'm not sure. I like the ability to click on a number and be taken to that article. Thanks in advance.
