Drupal development classes at the higher education, university level?

Hello all,

I'm helping a technical university that is interested in teaching Drupal development courses. What's the best way to find information about classes being offered at different places (distance and face-to-face), sample course structures and the like?

Thanks in advance,

Leo

Standard site name for Drupal Camps

Drupal camps have been very valuable sources for learning many things from Gigs and also update with new stuff. Its really useful to watch videos/slides after the camp is done but everyone having different names based on their group, year which really confuse a lot, I mean they can any name they want but the site name for all the Drupal camps I feel should be consistent so I don't need to track or search for it.

My suggestion is:

year.drupalcamp.groupname

For ex:

2011.drupalcamp.nyc

Question on providing feedback

I am an instructor in an on-line course. When I use Quiz, I have to turn off the feedback setting because I do not want my students to see the feedback until ALL the students have taken the quiz.

I also use manual scoring to avoid having students see the correct answers before everyone has taken the quiz. But - when I use manual scoring I lose the ability to show students the correct answer. And when I turn off the feedback setting, I lose the ability to explain to the students why they got something wrong.

Is there a way to control the time when feedback is provided so that students see the feedback AFTER I've scored the quiz?

Is there a way for me to manually add comments and provide feedback when I'm scoring a quiz?

Video module 7.x-2.1-alpha2, what you should know?

Original post : http://heididev.com/video-module-7x-2x-what-you-should-know

I released video module 7.x-2.1-alpha2 version on 11th of Sep. This major version completely redesign the video module and its core, I'm the only one worked on this release and seems our co-maintainers (6.x) had no time to contribute code to the 7.x yet. I'm very very happy about the progress of downloading and using video module. It has over 10,500+ usage now.

In this article I'm going to examine some new features added to the video module.

Super Simple WordReference.com Embedded Dictionary for Drupal 6

This afternoon I threw together a super simple embedded dictionary using WordReference.com. Nothing fancy just two options to set and a block you can put wherever you need that toggles to open an iframe to search definitions. Here's the code: https://github.com/markwk/embed_wr_dictionary

I thought it might be useful for some edu folks out there.

Best way to create 'grades' and 'classes'

Hi there

I am setting up a small website to handle classes and grades. At the moment the process works as follows:

  • create a new role: eg 'Grade 1 - 2011'
  • allocate users to the role
  • create a new node of type 'Class' (eg English). Select from the CCK field drop down the role that this class is for. Eg Grade 1 - 2011.
  • all the users who have the role 'Grade 1 - 2011' are now part of the class 'English'. Users in a grade do not need to be split between different classes.

RFQ for Higher-ed CRM project based on Drupal

Cal State Monterey Bay is looking for a great team to help with a CRM project for managing student relationships. Our team is committed to Drupal; however, we just have so many projects that we need your help to get this one out the door!

We are expecting to release this project as an open-source install profile after we've tested it on our campus, and we hope that interested firms are equally excited to do work that will benefit both our campus and other universities and colleges as well.

Benchmarking Higher Ed Sites ...

I recently revisited an old pet project of mine looking at benchmarking and comparing higher education sites. It is obviously a work in progress, but it is shaping up fairly well at this stage and I'm getting to a point where I'd like to secure some feedback. If 'ya get a chance, please take a look and let me know what you think. It's based on D7, represents around 3,200 US higher ed sites, and has a range of data to sift through.

Getting Feedback?

I'm finishing up work on a network of sites that will likely be getting a huge amount of incoming users in the coming weeks. One thing I haven't included yet it is a way to provide feedback about issues and problems (I know there must be some :). I could use a simple contact form but I'm wondering some of the best approaches for getting user feedback and handling issues within Drupal. Thoughts?

Sorting to help beginners join in

Please forgive this but my brain hurts.

I am an intermediate level IT person. I have coding experience, but my main focus has been on UI and Accessibility issues since I stop full-time coding with VB 6 & ASP technologies. I am no stranger to user groups and discussion boards, but I will confess to a lack of patience with them. Which brings me to my suggestion/rant:

I hope to have a distro to share within the next week or so...

Community describing higher ed use cases

A use case is something someone wants to do with a site. For example, a student wants to find email addresses of instructors who teach COM 101, to ask a question about the course.

Use cases are an important part of system design. They help specify what the system should do. Without that, you don't know what to build.

Would it be worthwhile to collaboratively create a list of use cases for higher ed Web sites? We could share our insights into the tasks people want to do, and how best to help them do those tasks.

iCal feed for Athletics events

I am writing a module to create a custom iCal feed from a non-calendar content type. The calendar iCal feed view only attaches to calendar views. To simplify the process, I plan to use existing Calendar and Date functions to format my custom iCal feed, for example function template_preprocess_calendar_view_ical(&$vars). However, I don't have a good enough understanding of theme functions to know how to format $vars for the above function or even how to render content through the calendar_ical module theme.

Here is our athletics schedules page: http://www.catlin.edu/athletics/schedules
